General Summary: Provide instruction and support to the Lower School students through the development of high-quality math instruction by working collaboratively with faculty, administrators, and families, to enhance mathematical understanding. This role focuses on instructional support, differentiation, professional development, curriculum evaluation, and direct child interventions to ensure effective, research-based math teaching practices at USM.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist Preschool and Lower School teachers in deepening their mathematical and pedagogical knowledge.
- Design, organize, and facilitate math professional development sessions.
- Support teachers in implementing instructional strategies through planning, co-teaching, and modeling best practices.
- Meet with grade-level teams to analyze data, refine instruction, and enhance mathematics learning.
- Provide recommendations on curriculum, materials, and instructional approaches to align with USM standards.
- Help teachers interpret math assessment data to inform instruction.
- Cultivate a culture of professional inquiry and continuous learning.
- Provide formal observational feedback to teachers based using the USM evaluation guide.
- Lead Preschool and Lower School math department meetings.
- Provide targeted support to children experiencing challenges in math.
- Work with Lower School children, individually or in small groups, through a push-in or pull-out model.
- Offer hands-on instructional opportunities to reinforce math concepts.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure children receive additional math instruction when needed.
- Assess and refine math programs to ensure they meet the needs of all learners.
- Analyze data and resources to support student growth.
- Ensure instructional math practices are research-based and aligned with USM standards.
- Plan and support parent education to foster home-school connections.

- Lead or contribute to an extracurricular activity such as coaching, teaching an after-school class, or offering a summer school course.
- Develop and lead age-appropriate computer science and/or coding initiatives in the preschool and lower school.
- Participate in school day supervision duties as assigned.
- Complete other tasks as deemed appropriate by the Preschool & Lower School administration.

Education and Experience:
- Minimum of five years of elementary teaching experience.
- Licensure in mathematics and/or an advanced degree in math education/intervention/coaching.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience in curriculum development and data-driven instructional decision-making.
Salary : $50,000 - $55,000
