Job Description
- General Summary: The Grounds Maintenance Worker performs the day-to-day and seasonal grounds and athletic facility needs, under the supervision of the Grounds Supervisor. This position assures that efficient facility operations meet the School’s needs.
- Ensures the USM grounds and athletic fields are kept in optimum condition according to service level needs.
- Performs routine grounds keeping duties including landscaping and care of vegetation, ensuring that the School campus is presented in an optimal condition.
- Recommends measures to improve methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
- Maintains time and production records; makes suggestions to increase the efficiency of work crew.
- Inspects work areas to determine type of work required and materials and equipment to be used.
- Organizes routine and seasonal landscaping and grounds keeping for the School’s campus and athletic facilities.
- Responds to inclement weather, participating in snow and deicing operations by removing snow and ice from building walkways, steps, and parking lots.
- Responds to facility emergencies and seasonal needs on a 24 hour, 7 days a week schedule.
- Provides support for other departmental and School-wide projects as needed to ensure safe and efficient School operations.
- Provides routine maintenance of all grounds equipment, ensuring the safe operation and usage of all power an motorized tools.
- Ensures compliance with all School policies and procedures.
- Seeks opportunities for professional growth by attending and participating in professional group meetings. Maintains awareness of new trends and developments in the field of facility grounds maintenance and incorporates new developments, as appropriate, into programs.
- Assumes other duties as assigned.
- General knowledge in facility grounds keeping operations and needs. Must be able to perform complex duties and operate related equipment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others and maintain positive professional relationships by using tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to read and understand landscape drawings, plans, and specifications.

- Strong plant, weed, shrub, and tree identification skills
- Proven track record in dealing with demanding clientele
- Experience in a school environment or other non-profit environment preferred, but not required
