Senior Group Leader - After School - PS130

We infuse a commitment to civic engagement, equity, and communal action into each of our programs, which include early childhood education, mental health and wellness, benefits assistance and eviction prevention, adult literacy and education, healthy aging, community, and recreation centers, performing and visual arts, and youth development.
Responsibilities:
- In consultation with and approval from the DYCD program Director will support group leaders and program aidesn assigned unit by providing classroom assistance when needed, assisting with participant behavior issues, supporting with classroom facilitation of activities, acting as a liaison between group leaders and program management
- Support assigned unit in planning and implementing theme-based projects and developmentally appropriate activities.
- Maintain positive, cooperative working relationships with host school, parents, staff and children.
- Strictly adhere to University Settlement policies and procedures, and Department of Health guidelines.
- Maintain professional standard of conduct i.e. hold in strict confidentiality employee and youth information and program files.
- Responsible for supervising arrival, snack and dismissal of assigned unit.
- Responsible for maintaining an inventory of program supplies and with approval from Director order supplies.
- Other duties (including Group Leader responsibilities- see below) as Assigned by the Director.
Group Leader Responsibilities:
- Design and implement innovated, quality educational and recreational activities for youth participants
- Actively participate in program-wide or division-wide activities
- Supervise homework and other in-class activities
- Demonstrate appropriate communication with families, teachers, staff and children
- Attend regular staff meetings and trainings
- Track attendance, performance and behavior (positive and negative) through accurate record keeping
- Design, implement lesson plans that promote monthly themes
- Create a classroom environment that promotes working, learning and creating.
- Work collectively with on-site specialist
- Organize special events as necessary
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications:
- Associate degree in child development, Elementary Ed. or related field or H.S. Diploma & two years direct experience working with children under 13 years of age.
- Experience working with parent groups i.e. volunteer groups, PTAs, AmeriCorps team etc.
- Familiarity working with youth in a variety of settings
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure
- Bilingual (English& Spanish/Cantonese/Mandarin) preferred
- Excellent organizational skills; ability to coordinate multiple tasks and responsibilities,
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills, “Next Person In Charge” when supervisor is unavailable.
- Must be able to support Site Supervisor in maintaining the integrality of the program and established relationships with partners.
Work Schedule: Part time, Monday - Friday, 2:30pm - 6:00pm, 17.5 hours per week
