Location
This position is assigned to the USG Enterprise Cybersecurity Operations Center in Athens, Georgia.
Department Information
Cybersecurity is the University System of Georgia's primary authority committed to ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of USG enterprise information and information systems and ensuring privacy protection.
Cybersecurity represents the University System to the federal, state, and local government entities, higher education, private industry, and others on security-related matters.

Job Summary
The Cybersecurity Analyst I, under direction of their supervisor, use a range of tools and techniques to identify risks to information system assets. They possess some skills in one or more information technology (IT) disciplines, such as networking, systems administration, database management and web applications. Individuals in the Cybersecurity Analyst I role understand tasks such as administering physical security and securing networked servers. These analysts are expected to have excellent writing and speaking skills, facilitating effective communication with both technical and non-technical colleagues across the University System of Georgia and beyond. Applying logic as well as unconventional approaches to solving puzzles and problems are also qualities we seek. Assisting working level and senior level cybersecurity analysts, the Cybersecurity Analyst I uses tools and technology to detect risk, identify security controls protecting information system assets and document the implementation of controls. By collecting and processing threat intelligence from a range of sources, these cybersecurity analysts contribute to managing contemporaneous and emerging cyber-threats.
Responsibilities
- Assists and documents daily cybersecurity operations.
- Assists with systems management issues.
- Assists performing risk assessments and testing of information systems.
- Monitors firewalls and other defensive cybersecurity measures.
- Performs routine incident response using approved USG service ticketing system.
- Develops a mastery of cybersecurity skills and procedures.
- Participates in USG-wide cybersecurity activities, including planning and executing cybersecurity meetings.
- Participates in occasional overnight travel, typically to attend training or conferences.
- Performs other duties, as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- A baccalaureate degree in computer science or a related field is required. Significant relevant experience in conjunction with an associate degree may be considered.
- Candidates with specialized knowledge in information security, cybersecurity, information assurance, or risk management, obtained through experience or a formal training program are highly desired.
- One or more years of related experience is required.
- The Cybersecurity Analyst I is expected to possess or immediately obtain professional certifications, such as A , Security , SSCP or GCIA. Certifications are a part of professional advancement detailed in the cybersecurity analyst training and development plan.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to work with multiple modern operating systems efficiently
- Functional competency in scripting languages such as VBScript, PHP, Perl, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, and experience with Linux/Unix shells is a plus.
- Intangible qualities for cybersecurity analysts include creativity, ingenuity, determination, leadership, and excellent interpersonal skills.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor reviews completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The work consists of varied cybersecurity analysis duties. Frequent changes to IT standards contribute to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to participate in the cybersecurity functions of the University System Office. Success in this position contributes to effectiveness and efficiency of USG operations.

Salary : $42,800 - $54,200
