IHS or Individualized Home Supports are provided to vulnerable adults who successfully live on their own with varying levels of support. An IHS worker provides this support by working 1-on-1 with the person through a series of weekly meetings. Most Individuals we serve have Services animals such as DOGS and CATS.

Starting Pay: $15.00-17.00 per hour (based on experience)

Hours are typically Monday through Friday based on scheduling with the staff and individual.

No experience necessary, we are willing to train each employee upon hire.

A full-time position in this field will require working with multiple individuals in need of support.

A part-time position consists of developing a workable schedule with the individual in need of support and can be flexible.

Individuals that are well suited to this kind of work should be comfortable with the following expectations and tasks;

-Being a positive influence in a person’s life and assisting a person making responsible choices.

-Ability to work independent of a supervisor in a relaxed environment while maintaining professional boundaries.

-Creating a flexible schedule with their individuals that meets the time constraints of both parties

-Creativity and problem solving with the individual to meet life’s challenges and develop personal goals.

-Being a job coach, life coach, and teammate to a person who has more barriers in their life than most.

-Working with Individuals whom have service animals such as dogs and cats.

Regular tasks include assisting an individual with the following: basic budgeting, menu planning, grocery shopping, job applications, mail management, appointment transportation, household organization, and supportive listening. This list is meant to develop a rough expectation and only represents the basics. The full scope of tasks is largely dependent upon the needs and goals of the individual.

A day in the life as a community service worker starts with meeting our individuals, whether it’s at their homes, at work, or at their favorite coffee shop. We then come up with a plan for the day that meets goals they have set, tasks they want to accomplish or appointments they need transportation to. Some days we might be running errands or tackling the pile of papers that need to be organized, other days may look like an adventure at a new park or going out to an UP event meeting with peers. We prepare our individuals to accomplish daily tasks like cooking dinner, having good hygiene, grocery shopping, going to the doctor, and other duties that might just seem like a thing most do without thinking. We encourage, cue, assist and support our individuals to become independent and get into a routine to complete the everyday tasks that life requires us to do.

Each candidate must possess a valid driver’s license, have reliable transportation, and pass a Minnesota State background check. To complete an application and schedule an interview please contact Summer on the job page
