What are the responsibilities and job description for the Authorization & Referral Specialist position at UNLV Health?
The Authorization and Referral Specialist is responsible for the timely processing, submitting, scheduling and follow up of referrals and request for treatment authorizations as required by payer. The Authorization and Referral Specialist tracks existing referrals by program and payer. The Authorization and Referral Specialist position requires excellent customer service skills with patients, employees, and the public. Individual must also be flexible, organized and must be able to manage a demanding workload with accuracy. This recruitment will establish a list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur in the next three (3) months.

- High School Diploma or equivalency
- Two years in the medical field to include front office, appointment scheduling and referral authorization
- Must be Bilingual English/Spanish
- Knowledge of health plans, eligibility and guidelines
- Demonstrated ability to read, write and speak English
- Demonstrated ability to use a computer
- Minimum typing speed of 35 wpm
- Experience with the Seriously Mentally Ill population preferred
- Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT billing codes a plus
- May include standing, sitting, and/or walking for extended periods
- May include performing repetitive tasks
- May include lifting up to 25 pounds
