Position Summary:
The position is responsible for planning, coordination, and dispatch of all emergent and non-emergent air and ground transports. Individuals must be capable and comfortable providing exceptional quality and service to a wide variety of internal and external customers to quickly triage each request and dispatch the most appropriate resource. A constant awareness must be maintained of each ground and air asset to maximize the safety, efficiency and effectiveness of our teams and the patients we serve. Provides information and emergency notification to customers. Works with advanced communications systems. Practices continuous professional development and excellent customer service. Practices proactive operational support of the department. Operate within the scope of practice as defined by the New Mexico Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and the UNMH Dispatch Medical Director whom provides patient care guidelines and protocols. Function as a patient advocate while ensuring adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Serve as a role model to promote positive work environment and quality patient care. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.

Detailed responsibilities:
* COMMUNICATION - Communicate accurate information in a timely manner to appropriate departments and personnel
* SERVICE - Ensure customer satisfaction by providing high quality service meeting or exceeding department customer service goals
* DATABASE - Update and maintain computer database
* DISASTER - Activate Hospitals disaster plan per policy in coordination with the Emergency Department, Hospitals management and the HSC
* DOCUMENTATION - Provide accurate documentation of flight-following and dispatch activities
* EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES - Monitor and stock supply areas; maintain equipment as appropriate
* MEETINGS - Attend education sessions, department and other meetings as appropriate
* MONITOR - Monitor Concern Network activities and provide flight follow-up
* MONITOR - Perform continuous monitoring of radio medical channels and dispatch request line
* MONITOR - Provide ongoing monitoring of incoming transfers and bed status
* ORIENTATION - Assist in orienting new employees as required
* PATIENT CARE - Assist in patient care activities in the Emergency Department during disaster or MCI incidents or other situations as needed
* TRIAGE - Answer all incoming ambulance radio traffic; make preliminary determination of patient destination within the Hospital; activate specialty teams as needed
* DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
* PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
* PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
* PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
* PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
* PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"
* DISPATCH - Dispatch and coordinate ground and air transport requests
* QUALITY - Participate in department quality and safety programs
* QUOTE - Provide quote information for prescheduled transports in conjunction with clerical support to requesting persons or agencies
* STATUS - Monitor internet site for hospital divert status changes and update as needed; activate MCI protocols as situations arise and coordinate MCI communications
* PATIENT CARE - Administer intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, topical application, sublingual and intravenous administration of medications via the seven rights; provide for nebulized drug administration; document and communicate clinical findings

Credentials:
Essential:
* Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic License
* CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days

Physical Conditions:
