Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Director Emergency Services, supervise the ED Technician and Paramedic staff. Provide orientation and training for new Paramedics and ER Technicians. Assist with the hiring, selection, orienting, training, supervising, scheduling and evaluating of Paramedic and Techs. Document and monitor Paramedic medication privileging. Perform all PEDs, 1West and ED Paramedic and Technician functions as needed. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.
Detailed responsibilities:
* SCHEDULE - Prepare work schedule to provide adequate coverage and efficient use of personnel to complete assigned work load
* EVALUATION - Prepare written staff performance evaluation of clinical procedures and other job elements as appropriate
* EDUCATION - Identify learning needs and changes in practice guidelines and initiate education programs specific to those needs
* EQUIPMENT - Arrange and conduct in-service training programs to demonstrate and train on proper use of equipment
* LICENSURE - Maintain records of licensure on assigned staff
* PAYROLL - Prepare and submit time to payroll system biweekly
* PERFORMANCE - Collaborate with management team on work performance plans involving corrective counseling
* EDUCATION - Coordinate and oversee the continuing education activities of assigned personnel
* ROLE MODEL - Act as a clinical resource and role model for department personnel
* STAFF MEETINGS- Conduct regular staff meetings reviewing changes in practices and providing an opportunity for problem solving
* SUPERVISION - Develop efficient organizational structure. Supervise employees and select, terminate, train, educate, correct deficiencies, perform appraisals, issue discipline, counsel, schedule work assignments; encourage staff teamwork and growth initiatives
* PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
* PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
* PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
* PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
* PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may 'not seem right'
