Position Summary:

Responsible for the ongoing development, direction, supervision and administration of the outpatient care departments. Ensures quality of care, cost effectiveness and optimal performance of personnel. Supports education and research in conjunction with Chief of Clinical Operations. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.

Detailed Responsibilities:

  • DIRECTION - Direct activities of the department and/or programs in accordance with Hospitals policies and objectives
  • PATIENT CARE - Assume patient care assignment as needed to maintain licensure
  • OPERATIONS - Develop plans and make recommendations relative to organizational and departmental operations such as organizational structure, space and layout, equipment use, work flow, and staffing
  • PROBLEM SOLVING - Investigate patient complaints and recommend solutions
  • BUSINESS PLANS - Prepare business plans to support new programs and expansion proposals
  • STRATEGIC PLANNING - Assist in the strategic planning of both short- and long-range plans
  • REPORTS - Prepare user-friendly, logical reports as requested by administrative personnel and/or applicable funding agencies
  • STUDIES - Conduct special studies requested by senior management including growth planning and new or improved products assessment
  • PROJECTS - Ensure that the mission, values, and strategic objectives are integrated into projects and programs
  • GOALS AND PLANS - Participate in the development of long range goals and strategic plans for assigned area(s)
  • DECISION MAKING - Participate in key decision making regarding overall planning, work redesign, and staff development associated with implementing changes in patient care delivery
  • STATUS UPDATES - Advise senior management regarding program and project status, progress, and implementation issues
  • GRANTS - Assist in or develop grant applications
  • GRANTS - Administer or ensure administration of approved grants and contracts in compliance with Hospitals, HSC, and regulatory mandates as applicable
  • DATA - Present valid, accurate data in a variety of formats for numerous departments and committees
  • COMPLIANCE - Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies governing health care delivery and the rules of accrediting bodies by continually monitoring appropriate Hospitals' operations, programs and physical properties; initiate changes where required
  • IMPROVEMENTS - Recommend changes for improvement in program content and in short/long-range planning in order to maintain competitiveness in the healthcare market
  • POLICY & PROCEDURE - Review and update policies and regulations, communicate the results of this work both verbally and in writing through designated channels
  • COMMITTEES AND MEETINGS - Participate in hospital/medical staff meetings and committees as required
  • SERVICE - Attend and serve on professional/civic service organizations as a UNM Hospitals representative
  • DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
  • PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
  • PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
  • PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
  • PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
  • PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"
  • LEADERSHIP - Provide leadership and direction over the Transplant Program

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • BSN w/Master's in Health Related or BS with MSN

4 years directly related experience

Credentials:

Essential:

  • CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
  • RN in NM or as allowed by reciprocal agreement w/in 60 days

Physical Conditions:

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. May require walking or standing to a significant degree or requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or may require working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of materials is negligible.
