Position Summary:
Dir Emergency Room – SRMC is responsible for the overall operations, and implementation and evaluation of Emergency Department initiatives. Role accountabilities will ensure the delivery of optimal and safe patient care which includes fiscal management, strategic planning, standards compliance, clinical practice, staff development, oversight and active participation in clinical practice, and performance improvement activities that evaluate program effectiveness. Ensure policies and procedures are developed, administered and monitored for efficient, effective management of all programs. Role includes frequent new and varied work situations. The role involves a high degree of complexity. Role operates independently with minimal supervision. Role works to determine own practices and procedures and also contribute to the development of new concepts. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.


Detailed responsibilities:
  • PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
  • PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
  • PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
  • PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
  • PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"
  • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES - Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality assurance programs
  • PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
  • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES - Develop, implement and maintain established organization/departmental policies, guidelines, procedures, objectives, and quality assurance programs
  • CLINICAL PRACTICE - Organize and direct clinical practice in collaboration with the Emergency Department medical director through development, implementation and maintenance of practice guidelines/standards
  • UTILIZATION - Facilitate between hospital/system administration, departments, and medical staff ensuring cost-effective utilization of products, services, processes and resources
  • BUDGET - Prepare and maintain department budget to ensure fiscal responsibility. Monitor and approve expenditures
  • COMPLIANCE - Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies, governing health care delivery and the rules of accrediting bodies by continually monitoring Hospital operations and programs and physical properties; initiate changes as required
  • QUALITY - Develop and implement quality improvement initiatives
  • DEVELOPMENT - Participate in key decision making regarding overall planning, work redesign, and staff development associated with implementing changes in patient care delivery
  • MEETINGS AND COMMITTEES - Attend technical and administrative meetings; participate in committee functions
  • STRATEGIC PLANNING - Aid in developing short and long range goals and strategic plans; while ensuring that the mission, vision, values and strategic objectives of the hospital and health system are integrated into projects and programs
  • ADVISOR - Advise executive leadership on program and project status, and implementation issues as they relate to short/long range goals
  • PROJECTS AND MEETINGS - Facilitate multidisciplinary and departmental work, project teams and meetings
  • EDUCATION - Support education initiative of the hospital by working with approved schools
  • SUPERVISION - Perform managerial functions for hiring, personnel actions, and assignment of personnel, disciplinary action, performance evaluations and work schedules
  • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES - Effectuates performance evaluations, personnel policies, hiring, promotion and discipline
  • COMPLIANCE - Ensure staff orientation, credentialing, competency completion and continuing education
  • REGULATORY - Ensure accurate documentation of information related to patient care activities, regulatory requirements, data collection and statistical reporting
  • PARTICIPATION - Active participation in LEAN initiatives/strategies
  • CUSTOMER SERVICE - Receive and accept compliments, complaints and feedback from patients, visitors, staff, providers and outside entities, then initiate appropriate follow-up actions and communication based upon the particular circumstances
  • CREDENTIALS - Maintain required skills and certifications to provide direct patient care when needed
  • RESOURCE - Act as a clinical resource and role model for department personnel
  • STANDARDS OF CARE - Provide and assure emergency department clinical treatment is performed in a manner that meets or exceeds established standards of care

Credentials:
Essential:
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification w/in 6 months
  • CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support Cert w/in 90 Days
  • RN in NM or as allowed by reciprocal agreement by NM
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) w/in 90 days of hire
Nonessential:
  • Instructor in BLS, ACLS, PALS and/or TNCC
  • National Certification


Physical Conditions:
Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
