Empower Students with Learning Differences
As a Special Education Teacher at UPA, you will work closely with teaching teams to integrate into classrooms, plan collaboratively, and provide personalized support for students with disabilities. You will ensure students are engaged in learning experiences that are strengths-based, inclusive, and aligned with their goals. From co-teaching to small group instruction, you will help students build the skills and confidence they need to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
Responsibilities
As a UPA Special Education Teacher, you will:
- Collaborate with grade-level teaching teams to design inclusive lessons and accommodations that meet the needs of all learners.
- Provide targeted small group instruction to support academic growth and critical thinking.
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to help students achieve their learning goals.
- Use asset-based language to celebrate students' strengths while addressing their unique learning needs.
- Monitor and track student progress, adjusting instruction to ensure continued growth.
- Build authentic relationships with students and families, fostering a supportive and inclusive community.
- Stay current on best practices and research in special education through ongoing professional development.
- Support classroom teachers in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications
To excel as a UPA Special Education Teacher, you will need:
- Bachelor’s Degree (required); a degree in special education or a related field is preferred.
- Texas Special Education Teaching Certification or Supplemental Certification
- Experience working with middle or high school students (preferred but not required).
- Familiarity with IEP development and implementation.
- Experience with inclusive practices, co-teaching, and small group instruction
- A deep commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in education.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
- A growth mindset, flexibility, and openness to feedback, with a desire for continuous improvement.
- Proficiency with technology and a willingness to integrate tools to support student learning.
