What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Intern, Geographic Information System (GIS) and Land Records position at UNS Energy Corporation?
Tucson Electric Power, one of Arizona’s leading utility companies, seeks an individual for the position of Student Intern in the Land Resources Department. The position will support Geospatial analysis and mapping, as well as Land right documentation and organization, for Environmental & Land Use Planners (ELUP) and Right-of-Way Agents (ROW). The successful applicant will be provided with on-the-job training in the position-related responsibilities.
Position-Related Responsibilities:
• Provide GIS support, including geospatial analysis.
• Develop maps and other exhibits using ESRI’s ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Portal, and other GIS products.
• Support research of land rights.
• Organize, quality check, complete, and improve the company land right records.
• Perform other tasks as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required:
• Experience with Microsoft Office 365 products, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Strong organizational skills, including experience in managing large amounts of data and files.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Strong troubleshooting and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to take initiative and ownership.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Preferred:
• Coursework and/or experience with ESRI ArcGIS geospatial software packages.
• Coursework and/or interest with land rights or environmental compliance.
Requirements:
Must be a full time college student, located in the Tucson, Arizona area. Must be able to work a minimum of 20 hours per week during regular business hours and up to 40 hours a week during Summer and school breaks.
The position follows a hybrid work schedule. Prior to each semester, class schedules will be reviewed and a hybrid plan will be developed to align with that semester. It's important to remember that Student Interns are students first and employees second, so their academic commitments should be prioritized.
Student Interns must maintain the required hours for full-time student status, good academic standing at their college or university, as defined by the college or university and the GPA required for graduation by their college or university. Failure to maintain full-time status, good academic standing and/or the requisite GPA will result in Student Interns being deemed ineligible for participation in this program.
Student Interns are employed on a temporary basis and are generally not eligible for some benefits, including holiday pay.
