Lead Skills Trainer Job Description:
The Lead Skills Trainer provides direct support to participants in the Supported Living Program (SLP) while also serving as a leader. This role oversees ISP development for an initial caseload of four clients, ensuring staff effectively implement goals and supports.
Serving 14 clients with a team of six, the Lead Skills Trainer is responsible for staff training, monitoring, documentation review, and facilitating meaningful activities at home and in the community. The role is approximately 70% direct client support, with the remainder focused on ISP development, staff training, and scheduling. This position reports to the Supported Living Program Manager.
Qualifications
- Must be 18 and eligible to work in the U.S.
- Passion for working with adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD).
- Experience providing support for adults with I/DD in home and community settings.
- Commitment to independent living and community integration.
- Knowledge of instructional and behavior management; OIS certification preferred.
- Strong relationship-building skills with clients, families, and community partners.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and be bondable.
- Flexible schedule with on-call availability.
- Valid Oregon or Washington driver’s license, auto insurance, acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation.
Required Certifications (Reimbursement available for required certifications)
- First Aid/CPR
- Oregon Food Handler’s Card
- Tuberculosis (TB) Test (required upon hire)

Key Responsibilities
Direct Support & ISP Implementation
- Provide direct service to clients, ensuring ISP goals and supports are met.
- Develop, implement, and monitor ISPs for an initial caseload of four clients.
- Conduct participant assessments and semi-annual ISP training.
- Train and oversee staff in executing ISP strategies.
- Review ISP goal data and staff progress notes weekly.
- Ensure safety plans and emergency procedures are in place and followed.
Staff Support & Training
- Observe and evaluate staff performance in ISP implementation.
- Assist in developing staff schedules to ensure consistency.
- Provide ongoing training and mentorship to SLP staff.
Client & Program Coordination
- Schedule and attend medical appointments with clients as needed.
- Review General Event Reports (GERs) and ensure appropriate action is taken.
- Plan and facilitate meaningful, integrated activities for clients.
Professionalism & Ethics
- Maintain a respectful, professional demeanor with clients and staff.
- Uphold a positive agency image within the community.
- Comply with Oregon Administrative Rules and agency policies.
Physical Requirements
- Lift and carry 25-100 lbs. independently.
- Stand, walk, and change positions throughout shifts.
- Occasionally climb stairs and navigate uneven surfaces.
- Use hands/arms continuously, including grasping and overhead reaching.
Additional Duties
- Provide on-call support two weekends per month.
- Assist in policy and procedure development.
- Regularly meet with supervisors for updates and collaboration.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
