What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sterile Processing Tech PRN position at UP Health System - Bell?
Responsible for the reprocessing of re-usable supplies, instruments, and trays for use throughout the hospital.
Follows established policies and procedures, objectives, safety standards, and sensitivity to confidential information.
Willing and able to demonstrate appropriate core competencies annually or as requested.
Receives, decontaminates, inspects, assembles, and wraps surgical instruments and trays for sterilization with careful consideration for functionality and completeness of trays.
Determines appropriate sterilization technique and prepares instruments and trays based on established policies and procedures.
Maintains and updates sterilization instructions for all current and new instruments as received in the department.
Ensures sterilized packages and tray wraps contain appropriate instruments and indicators before sterilization.
Maintains a working knowledge on the functionality of all types of sterilizers used at Bell Hospital and assists with any trouble shooting.
Ensures that instruments and equipment are clean, lubricated, and in good working order prior to sterilization.
Performs terminal cleaning in the Surgical Services Department as required.
Assembles operating room case carts with specially requested items and delivers to operating suite.
Actively participates in efficient room turnover by picking up and delivering instruments.
Accounts for items received and distributed from sterile processing on a daily basis and reports to OR team and managers any missing or broken items.
Neatly and thoroughly, records items sterilized, processing indicators, and expiration dates in log.
Conducts daily and annual inventories of surgical services supplies.
Monitors biological indicators for analysis of sterilization effectiveness after sterilization, maintains files of testing, and reports results to managers on a monthly basis.
Reports any sterilizer malfunctions or positive B1 results to manager immediately.
Ensures all department and hospital infection control policies and procedures are complied with.
Utilizes a computer database in support of the inventory control system and actively participate in inventory management.
Completes daily, weekly, and monthly checklists for the department which includes sterilizer cleaning.
Maintains confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
Support the culture of service excellence throughout the organization.
Actively seek ways to demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and participate in professional development opportunities.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Completes annual educational requirements.

Minimum Education
High School Diploma and professional experience as a Sterile Processing Technician preferred.
Required Skills

Previous sterile processing department experience. Preferred
