What are the responsibilities and job description for the Let's Get Movin' Coach position at Up2Us Sports?
The LGM Coach will be involved in all aspects of program delivery from daily lesson plan creation, program set-up,
and after-school program facilitation. The coach will deliver nutrition education sessions both during the after-school
program and in school-based setting. The coach will also assist in facilitating cooking classes and will assist with
testing and fitness evaluation as well as program enrollment efforts.
Specific Duties/Functions
- Promote the development of a healthy lifestyle through the development and delivery of physical activity
programming and nutrition education for youth during after school - Develop mentoring relationships with program participants to provide opportunities to reinforce leading a healthy lifestyle
- Assist in the running of family physical activity programming
- Maintain documentation of program efforts and participation
- Assist with fitness testing and program evaluation
- Plan field trips for Let's Get Movin' youth to introduce children to resources both in their neighborhood and surrounding communities
- Create fliers and maintain field trip resource database
Qualifications
- Must be available during late afternoon hours with flexibility to adjust scheduled hours based on program needs
- Experience working with youth
- Sport experience (playing and/or coaching)
- Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus
Additionally, the Up2Us Americorps Coach will:
• Encourage participants to gain and develop life skills, knowledge, and techniques through sport,
using lessons learned at Up2Us Sports’ best in class training events.
• Perform data collection activities, as directed by your Up2Us Sports Program Manager.
• Act as a role model, gaining the respect and trust of the community and youth served.
Up2Us AmeriCorps Coaches must complete the following requirements to ensure successful completion of
the AmeriCorps program:
• Completion of the minimum required hours of service and training by last day of coach contract.
• Attendance at the Up2Us Coach orientation.
• Completion of bi-weekly timesheets.
• Attendance at days of community service.
• Attend/participate in Up2Us Sports trainings, meetings, and special initiatives.
• Attend Coach Training Institute (date to be announced by Program Manager).
Uniform Policy:
Coaches must wear Up2Us Sports branded t-shirts provided by Up2Us Sports with AmeriCorps logo when
coaching and at program sessions and events.
Eligibility & Qualifications
- AmeriCorps is open to U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent residents.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must have, or be working towards High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Must have access to reliable transportation.
- Successful completion of criminal history background checks.
- Ability to perform all job requirements satisfactorily.
- Other requirements as required.
Living Allowance: $20,399.00
Education Award: $6,895.00
Minimum Service Hours: 1700 hours
Anticipated Schedule: M-F 10-6 with occasional weekend hours
*Living allowance amount is contingent upon the completion of the service term as outlined in the Coach Contract.
