Program/Organization Description
The Miami Marlins Foundation makes an impact by creating opportunities for youth to stay active, achieve academic success, and build leadership skills. Our wellness programs address barriers that students face with academic success, food insecurity, healthy eating habits, and fitness. In the area of empowerment, we focus on college scholarships, leadership development, and providing educational resources to students and teachers. Our youth baseball & softball programs promote learning baseball and softball fundamentals and support social and emotional learning that builds champions on and off the field.
Roles and Responsibilities
Jr. RBI
- Serve as coach to teach the fundamentals of baseball and lead a Marlins Jr. RBI team in the tee ball, coach pitch, and/or kids pitch divisions.
- Work with fellow coaches to develop practice plans for two practices per week to help players strengthen individual skills and team cohesiveness, while also developing life skills and intangibles necessary for team sports.
- Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Jr. RBI program with community partners including communication with parents, assistance with online registration on League Apps, collection of paperwork, and distribution of uniforms and equipment.
- Work closely with park supervisors in management of the park’s teams including scheduling updates, roster organization, and assisting with field maintenance as necessary.
- Serve as umpire for neutral Jr. RBI games when needed.
- Maintain knowledge of and implement Marlins Youth Baseball and Softball development strategies and techniques to organized activities.
- Promote Marlins Jr. RBI to local community organizations, schools, and coaches.
RBI
- Serve as on-site Marlins representative for RBI games collecting game sheets, checking rosters, and communicating with coaches, umpires, and park staff when necessary.
- Assist with RBI Clinics, All-Star team try-outs and practices, and development series events.
- Promote Marlins RBI to local community organizations, schools, and coaches.
Marlins Youth Academy
- Maintain regular communication with Miami Marlins staff on updates regarding program.
- Attend any trainings, meetings, and special initiatives that are requested by the Miami Marlins Foundation
- Assist with the operation of various Youth Baseball & Softball events held throughout South Florida.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Major League Baseball Youth Initiatives
- Assist with the operation of various MLB Initiatives and events held throughout South Florida.
- Assist with promotion of MLB Initiatives and events to local community organizations and recreational leagues.
Requirements
· Strong written and oral communication skills.
· Strong organizational and time management skills.
· Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
· Ability to work nights/weekends.
· Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred.
· Experience & knowledge of working with youth baseball and/or softball programs preferred.
· Experience working with youth recreation programs preferred.
Additionally, the Up2Us AmeriCorps Coach will:
• Encourage participants to gain and develop life skills, knowledge, and techniques through sport,
using lessons learned at Up2Us Sports’ best in class training events.
• Perform data collection activities, as directed by your Up2Us Sports Program Manager.
• Act as a role model, gaining the respect and trust of the community and youth served.
Up2Us AmeriCorps Coaches must complete the following requirements to ensure successful completion of
the AmeriCorps program:
• Completion of the minimum required hours of service and training by last day of coach contract.
• Attendance at the Up2Us Coach orientation.
• Completion of bi-weekly timesheets.
• Attendance at days of community service.
• Attend/participate in Up2Us Sports trainings, meetings, and special initiatives.
• Attend Coach Training Institute (date to be announced by Program Manager).
Uniform Policy:
Coaches must wear Up2Us Sports branded t-shirts provided by Up2Us Sports with AmeriCorps logo when
coaching and at program sessions and events.
Eligibility & Qualifications
- AmeriCorps is open to U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent residents.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must have, or be working towards High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Must have access to reliable transportation.
- Successful completion of criminal history background checks.
- Ability to perform all job requirements satisfactorily.
- Other requirements as required.
