Position Overview:
Serve as an Up2Us Coach and Program Coordinator, using sports and education to empower youth and foster positive life outcomes. This role includes coaching, program coordination, and summer camp mentorship, offering diverse responsibilities and professional development opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
During the School Year (Jan 30–May 26): Locations: Excite Innovation Center, Lake Forest Charter, Fannie C. Williams, Joe Brown Park, Atkinson Stern
- Youth Sports Coach: Develop sport-specific skills and teamwork among youth.
- Program Leader: Plan and improve existing youth programs, ensuring structure and engagement.
- Health & Nutrition Leader: Educate youth and parents on healthy habits and lifestyle choices.
- Camp Coordinator: Facilitate engaging activities during out-of-school time, including weekends and holidays.
- Event Planner: Assist in organizing tournaments and special events.
- Volunteer Recruiter: Recruit, train, and empower community volunteers for program support.
- Service Learning Facilitator: Lead initiatives to promote community engagement and service.
- Referee: Oversee games, ensuring fair play and using mistakes as teachable moments.
Summer Coach/Mentor (May 27–July 5): Excite Innovation Center
- Lead a group of approximately 10 campers as a team leader.
- Communicate and implement weekly/daily activity plans.
- Ensure timely and orderly movement of campers between activities.
Service Dates & Hours:
- Term: January 30–July 25
- Hours: ~10 hours/week during the school year; 35–40 hours/week during summer.
- Requirement: Complete 900 service hours by July 25.
Additionally, the Up2Us AmeriCorps Coach will:
Encourage participants to gain and develop life skills, knowledge, and techniques through sport, using lessons learned at Up2Us Sports’ best in class training events.
• Perform data collection activities, as directed by your Up2Us Sports Program Manager.
• Act as a role model, gaining the respect and trust of the community and youth served.
Up2Us AmeriCorps Coaches must complete the following requirements to ensure successful completion of the AmeriCorps program:
Completion of the minimum required hours of service and training by the last day of coach contract.
• Attendance at the Up2Us Coach orientation.
• Completion of bi-weekly timesheets.
• Attendance at days of community service.
• Attend/participate in Up2Us Sports trainings, meetings, and special initiatives.
• Attend Coach Training Institute (date to be announced by Program Manager).
Uniform Policy:
Coaches must wear Up2Us Sports branded t-shirts provided by Up2Us Sports with AmeriCorps logo when coaching and at program sessions and events.
Eligibility & Qualifications
- AmeriCorps is open to U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent residents.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must have, or be working towards a High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Must have access to reliable transportation.
- Successful completion of criminal history background checks.
- Ability to perform all job requirements satisfactorily.
- Other requirements as required.
Living Allowance/Stipend: $10,800 total (Paid bi-weekly)
Education Award: $3,697.50 upon completing 900 hours, usable for education-related expenses.
