Reporting Relationship

Reports to the Director of Engineering 

 

 

Core Function

The Engineering Project Manager is responsible for leading engineering and manufacturing projects from initiation to completion. This role requires a strong technical background, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to manage cross-functional teams to ensure successful project execution. The Engineering Project Manager will oversee resource allocation, risk management, budgeting, and stakeholder communication to ensure projects meet business objectives, quality standards, and timeline expectations.

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Project Planning & Execution: Develop and manage detailed project plans, including scope, objectives, timelines, resources, and deliverables. Ensure all projects align with business goals and customer requirements.

 

  1. Engineering Coordination: Work closely with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure smooth execution of engineering projects, from prototype development to full-scale production.

 

  1. Resource Management: Allocate resources effectively, including personnel, tools, and budgets, to ensure project milestones are met.

 

  1. Budget & Cost Control: Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring financial discipline while delivering high-quality results.

 

  1. Timeline Management: Monitor project schedules to meet key deadlines. Identify bottlenecks or roadblocks and implement corrective actions to maintain project progress.

 

  1. Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks that could impact project success. Develop contingency plans and proactively address potential issues.

 

  1. Stakeholder Communication: Act as the primary contact for project stakeholders, ensuring transparent communication. Provide regular updates on project status, risks, and key milestones to senior management and clients.

 

  1. Quality Assurance: Ensure that all project deliverables meet or exceed quality standards through continuous monitoring and process improvements.

 

  1. Change Management: Manage scope changes and assess impacts on cost, schedule, and resources. Ensure alignment with stakeholders before implementing changes.

 

  1. Documentation & Reporting: Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including technical specifications, project plans, budgets, and reports.

 

  1. Team Leadership & Collaboration: Lead cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the engineering and manufacturing environment.

 

  1. Occasional Travel & Customer Engagement: Represent UPG at customer sites, meetings. Occasional travel may be required to support project implementation, build strong customer relationships, and ensure project alignment with customer needs.

 

  1. Post-Project Review: Conduct project evaluations to assess outcomes, document lessons learned and identify areas for improvement in future projects.

 

 

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing engineering or manufacturing projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge of engineering principles, manufacturing processes, and product development lifecycles.
  • Experience with project management methodologies such as Agile, Scrum, or Waterfall.
  • Proficiency in project management software such as MS Project, Asana, or equivalent tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to adapt to changing project needs.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective stakeholder and team engagement.

 

 

Educational Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.

 

  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification preferred.

 

  • Lean or Six Sigma certification is a plus.

 

 

Physical Requirements

 Sedentary Work – Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and / or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.

 

 

 

Visual Acuity 

 The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and or operation or machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distance close to the eyes.

 

 

Work Conditions

 The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions:  Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature change.
