What are the responsibilities and job description for the Furnace Tender position at UPG?
Responsibilities:
- Operates and adjusts furnace settings according to specifications, ensuring product quality by following QT-9 work instructions and other documented procedures. Completes all required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.

Coordinates with preceding and post shifts to relay critical information and provides oversight of the annealing area, directing the activities of furnace loaders and packers during the shift.

Executes assigned preventive and predictive autonomous maintenance tasks.

Oversees the facility during assigned shifts on weekends, holidays, and plant closures.
- Assists with loader/packer duties as needed to accommodate production demand surges.
- Perform necessary furnace repairs, as needed.
- Accurately document annealing production and rework data in the ERP system and update the GEMBA boards accordingly.
- Monitor and ensure the quality of work performed by loaders, including loading furnace trays, unloading furnace trays and packaging to meet customer specifications.
- Support monthly reporting requirements for the DNR.
Qualifications:
To successfully perform this job, the individual must meet the qualifications and be capable of executing each essential duty effectively. The following represent the required knowledge, skill, and abilities:
- High School diploma or equivalent , with experience in manufacturing environment preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, including load and packing guidelines.
- Demonstrates positive attitude, reliability, and strong work ethic.

Adheres to all safety protocols, including PPE usage, ergonomic practices, and operational standards, ensuring safe operation of both Flinn and Lindberg furnaces. Ensures all supervised operators meet these safety requirements.
- Effectively communicates and escalates essential information to area leaders and supervisors as necessary.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. frequently and occasionally lift over 70 lbs.
- Experience with ERP systems is a plus.
- Forklift knowledge and experience is a plus.
