Position Title: Pharmacy Intern
Department: Pharmacy
Supervisor: Pharmacy Director (primary) and Pharmacists (secondary)
Status / Hours per week: Non-exempt / 30 – 40 hours per week
Primary Function:
Assist the Pharmacist with the process of filling prescriptions and providing patient’s consultations/ education for Pharmacy patients.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Provides prompt and accurate customer service.
• Establishes and continually verifies accuracy of patient’s profiles with correct demographics, allergy, contact information, and insurance.
• Becomes familiar with cash register procedures at dispensing window.
• Requests authorization for prescription refills via fax, or e-prescriptions.
• Enters prescription data into pharmacy computer system and make sure of its billing accuracy
• Transfers precipitations in and out as necessary.
• Counts medications
• Assists Pharmacy Supervisor in ordering and inventory control as needed.
• Affixes labels to prescription container.
• Helps maintain cleanliness and order in the pharmacy.
• Communicates with insurance companies under the supervision of the pharmacist.
• Communicates with medical providers via EMR or verbally in order to clarify prescriptions
• Checks MassPat PMP for Controlled Substance prescriptions eligibility.
• Under the Pharmacists’ supervision work on MTM and other Clinical outcomes platforms as needed.
• Checks EMR for patient’s clinical information and 340B eligibilities.
• Complies with all Federal, State and UCHC regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Provides appropriate patient education to Pharmacy patients regarding his/her medications under direct supervision of the pharmacist.
• Participates in QA projects.
• Administers vaccines under the Pharmacist’s supervision
• Assists in conducting 340B internal audits and other projects.
Qualifications
Minimum Basic Knowledge:
Must be enrolled into accredited school of pharmacy and registered as a Pharmacy Intern with the Board of Pharmacy.
Experience & Qualifications:
Bi-lingual skills in English and Spanish or Portuguese preferred.
