UPMC Department of Pediatrics, Division of Newborn Medicine is seeking a passionate and dynamic Director of Neonatal Advanced Practice to oversee all NICU operations across multiple locations. This role is pivotal in leading a workforce of over 80 neonatal Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) across six NICUs, including the region's only Level IV NICU, which cares for newborns with the most complex surgical and medical conditions, and a Level III NICU at the region's premier obstetric and neonatal hospital, with over 10,000 births occurring each year.
Experience with managerial / supervisory responsibilities and leadership training is preferred but not required. NICU experience is strongly preferred. This position will report to the Division Director (Chief) of Newborn Medicine and VP / Executive Administrator Pediatrics and will collaborate closely with the Neonatal Clinical Directors. This is primarily a Monday-Friday daylight position but will require some evening, overnight, and weekend visibility as well as on-call responsibilities.

Purpose :
The Director, Neonatal Advanced Practice provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and clinical expertise for Neonatal Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) across the system. They ensure the delivery of high-quality, standardized care through interdisciplinary collaboration and best practices. Partnering with Neonatologists and the broader healthcare team, the Director integrates clinical operations and aligns business objectives within the Pediatric and Women's Health Service Lines. Reports to the Division Director Newborn Medicine and Executive Administrator Department of Pediatrics.
Responsibilities : n \n
- Maintain 24 / 7 accountability for neonatal APP staffing across the system, developing and implementing guidelines in collaboration with local APP Managers to ensure adequate APP coverage.
- Provide leadership for daily operations in all UPMC NICUs, overseeing the activities of Physician Assistants (PAs) and Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners (CRNPs).
- Collaborate with Human Resources to develop and execute neonatal APP recruitment and retention strategies.
- Act as an engaged interprofessional care team member, adapting to changes and demonstrating flexibility in a dynamic healthcare environment.
- Responsible for compensation equity, professional advancement, quality and safety management, patient experience, and program development in collaboration with Department of Pediatrics, Division of Newborn Medicine and Human Resources leadership.
- Partner with the Neonatal Medical Directors in workforce planning and contributing to provider staffing model development.
- Develop and manage productivity expectations and revenue cycle optimization.
- Coach and develop leadership skills in others.
- Manage organizational change and foster acceptance, adoption, and action toward change.
- Maintain visibility at all NICU sites.
