In this role, there is the opportunity to -

- Conduct QC checks at each stage of tissue processing and staining.
- Process, prepare, and embed surgical and autopsy tissue specimens according to specific protocols.
- Comply with UPMC and departmental policies, procedures, and work practices.
- Perform ancillary tasks such as filing, cleaning, and stocking supplies.
- Assist with additional duties and assignments as directed by lab leadership.
- Prepare slides for microtomy using barcode labels to ensure correct patient identification.
- Support the academic mission of the department through active engagement.
- Maintain laboratory instruments by following quality control specifications and daily protocols.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances :
Histology Technician (HT) certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is preferred.
