Job Description : UPMC Hillman Cancer Center has an exciting opportunity for a flex full-time Medical Lab Scientist (Medical Technologist) / Medical Lab Technician to support our North Hills Passavant-McCandless and Passavant-Cranberry oncology offices. This patient-facing role will allow you to use your phlebotomy skills, as well as your medical laboratory skills to make a meaningful difference in the lives of cancer patients. This position will work Monday-Friday daylight hours - no evenings, weekends, or holidays are required! \n This position will work between 56 to 80 hours per pay period (2 weeks) with Monday-Friday daylight hours and receive full-time benefits. \n Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title & salary based on their experience and education.\n\nMedical Lab Technician salaries start at $21.48 hourly with a sign-on bonus of $10,000!\nMedical Lab Scientist salaries start at $26.97 hourly with a sign-on bonus of $15,000!\n\n Join our mission to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients. Practices pleasant communications both internally and externally.\nAdhere to established laboratory and hospital policies in areas of procedures, methods, quality control, quality assurance, safety, compliance, and personnel policies. Follow established procedures for the collection (including phlebotomy, as required) and processing of specimens for analysis including the appropriateness and stability of the sample. Perform qualitative and quantitative analytical procedures according to established protocols with precision and accuracy in a timely and efficient manner.\nRecognize critical, abnormal, and unacceptable test results and follow-up according to established protocols. Recognize factors that affect measurements and results and initiate the necessary corrective action according to established protocols. Identify problems with instrumentation, methodology, specimens, supplies, or results and act as outlined in predetermined protocols.\nOperate and maintain equipment within the scope of training utilizing defined schedules and written instructions to perform quality control checks, preventive maintenance, and calibration. Perform minor repairs. Use reagents and supplies cost-effectively; monitor and maintain an appropriate supply inventory.\nMaintain in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments, their interrelationships and physiological conditions affecting test results.\nConduct, direct, or assist with test development and methodology / equipment evaluation, selection, and implementation.\nPerforms High Complexity Testing (as defined by PA DOH) without direct supervision.\nAssume responsibility for first-line supervision of the section / department temporarily as delegated.\nTrain and orient new employees, students, and residents, as applicable and as assigned.\n Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title & salary based on their experience and education.\n Medical Laboratory Scientist : \n\nBachelor of Science degree from an accredited college / university AND successful completion of a CAHEA accredited Medical Technology program,\n\nOR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college / university with a major in biological, chemical, physical or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP categorical certification, \nOR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college / university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND at least two years' experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory\n\n\nPrefer 1 year experience in a hospital laboratory. \nKnowledge of medical terminology and laboratory information systems preferred.\nPhlebotomy experience preferred.\n\n Medical Labpratory Technician : \n\nAssociate degree in laboratory science with certification (or eligible new graduate) from an accredited institution as either a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or as a Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA),\n\nOR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science, \nOR equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA '88 for individuals performing high complexity testing. \n\n\nExperience : Minimum 1 years' experience in a hospital laboratory preferred. \nFamiliarity with medical terminology and laboratory information systems preferred.\nPhlebotomy experience preferred.\n\n Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances : \n\nMedical Technologist MT(ASCP), Medical Laboratory Scientist MLS(ASCP), or equivalent certification preferred.\nMedical Laboratory Technician MLT(ASCP) or Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification preferred.\nAct 34\n\n UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer / Disability / Veteran
