UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside seeks multiple Directors, Translational Sciences in Pittsburgh, PA to develop, manage, and direct UPMC Enterprises’ strategic investment portfolio and start-up incubator by leading the group’s efforts to evaluate the proposals for new investments and commercialize scientific discoveries in the fields of oncology, autoimmune diseases, and the central nervous systems into new life-science start-ups. Responsible for evaluating investment proposals and developing detailed project plans, timelines, and budgets in order to translate scientific discoveries into innovative medical devices, therapies, and medications for FDA approval, licensing, or acquisition. Provide direct support for the current portfolio of strategic investment companies, focusing on the financial monitoring, budgeting, and forecasting of Novasenta, BlueSphere Bio, Avista Health, Generian, as well as other newly formed therapeutic start-ups. ‘Own’ the entire investment process, from proactively sourcing new investment opportunities and performing ‘landscape’ analysis, initial screening, final investment, and post-investment monitoring and support. Develop financial return models and perform quantitative and return analysis of companies’ potential commercial pipelines in order to properly evaluate project funding proposals from UPMC and University of Pittsburgh Investigators, as well as external funding requests. Assess the needs of each investment project to ensure provision of UPMC’s clinical, legal, and financial expertise and resources needed to ensure an efficient transition between research and clinical development.
