Purpose:
HIM/Release of Information (ROI) Technician
UPMC Western Maryland's Medical Records team is searching for a new member! Under the direction of the Manager - ROI, you'll support multiple UPMC campuses by handling the retrieval and distribution of medical records for patient care, insurance, research, and legal purposes. This role involves extensive customer service, including answering calls, assisting customers with their requests, and coordinating the release of medical records.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process requests for medical records in compliance with HIPAA and state regulations.
- Provide excellent customer service by answering phones and assisting with record requests.
- Retrieve and distribute medical records using various electronic systems, including MediTech (experience with MediTech is a big plus!).
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of requests, including billable requests and payments.
- Maintain organized work areas and manage incoming mail and faxes.
- Occasionally assist with death certificates and other HIM department tasks.
Qualifications:
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to changes and prioritize tasks.
- Experience with MediTech is highly desirable.
