UPMC is hiring a full-time Histotechnician or Histotechnologist to support the Histology Lab! This role will be scheduled for daylight shifts with variable start times between 3:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. Monday thru Friday. Our lab is located in the Clinical Lab Building located in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh near UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary based on their individual experience and education. The Histotechnologist role starts at $23.61/hr.
UPMC is currently offering a generous sign-on bonus of up to $15,000 for Histotechnicians and Histotechnologists!
Responsibilities:
- Understands CoPath related to Histology workflow.
- Progresses towards working independently in an advanced staining area.
- Performs QC checks at each phase of processing/ staining
- Processes and prepares surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining and coverslipping.
- Embeds and cuts specialized tissue based on location including minute biopsy protocols.
- Ensures all tissues are embedded and cut according to department-specific protocols with proper orientation and complete sections including no folds, chatter, artifacts, or floaters.
- Accurately prepares slides for microtomy using the barcode label in order to maintain correct patient identification throughout the process.
- Maintains instruments following quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols.
- Performs additional tasks such as filing, cleaning, stocking supplies.
