The Mental Health Specialist/Safety position is within UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital’s Center for Autism and Developmental Disorders (CADD) inpatient unit. The CADD Inpatient Program follows a holistic and multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and treatment of individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and co-occurring mental health conditions.
Responsibilities:
Policies and Standards
- Follow policies, procedures, and standards of care.
- Align with Behavioral Health Center philosophy.
Patient Care
- Address patient dysfunction and its effects.
- Develop and implement care plans.
- Assess patient needs as part of the Treatment Team.
Safety and Crisis Management
- Manage physical restraints and ensure safety.
- Lead debriefing sessions post-crisis.
- Conduct safety rounds.
Documentation and Communication
- Record patient encounters.
- Coordinate with ambulance personnel and complete documentation.
- Oversee visiting hours and maintain a calm environment.
Activities and Training
- Organize educational, social, and recreational activities.
- Provide safety training and investigate incidents and report findings.
