The Mental Health Specialist/Safety position is within UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital’s Center for Autism and Developmental Disorders (CADD) inpatient unit. The CADD Inpatient Program follows a holistic and multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and treatment of individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and co-occurring mental health conditions. 


Responsibilities:

Policies and Standards

  • Follow policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Align with Behavioral Health Center philosophy.

Patient Care

  • Address patient dysfunction and its effects.
  • Develop and implement care plans.
  • Assess patient needs as part of the Treatment Team.

Safety and Crisis Management

  • Manage physical restraints and ensure safety.
  • Lead debriefing sessions post-crisis.
  • Conduct safety rounds.

Documentation and Communication

  • Record patient encounters.
  • Coordinate with ambulance personnel and complete documentation.
  • Oversee visiting hours and maintain a calm environment.

Activities and Training

  • Organize educational, social, and recreational activities.
  • Provide safety training and investigate incidents and report findings.

Salary : $19 - $29
