UPMC Altoona is hiring a full-time Pharmacy Technician!
This position is eligible for a generous sign-on bonus of $5,000 which comes with a 2-year work commitment.
The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for the proper storage and distribution of drugs and receiving and accounting for drugs coming from all vendors. The Pharmacy Tech delivers drugs to patient care and other areas, picks up drug returns and applicable paperwork, and puts all returned unit-dose products back to proper receipts. Additional responsibilities include filling patient drug boxes, floor stock orders, and automated dispensing cabinets. Also assists Pharmacists as directed and maintains daily report.
Responsibilities:
- Accurately fills floor stock request.
- Prepare correct labeling for bulk drugs.
- Perform basic pharmaceutical calculations.
- Basic understanding of concept of physical stability and chemical stability as it relates to parenteral pharmaceuticals.
- Correctly interpret physician orders and can distinguish between pharmaceutical orders, laboratory tests, radiology, nursing and other orders.
- Perform monthly medication storage area inspections.
- Selects drugs from stock in proper dose, dosage form and quantity as ordered by physician under direct supervision of a pharmacist.
- Understands microbial contamination and exhibits Aseptic Technique while preparing sterile pharmaceutical products.
- Repackages drugs into unit of use container.
