Key responsibilities include -
- Assists with the transfer and setup of patients, as directed by the licensed clinical staff within the occupational, physical, and speech therapy departments, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Discusses patient care with licensed clinicians prior to initiating activities, ensuring that patients receive appropriate care and assistance during their therapy sessions.
- Maintains adequate medical supplies by performing weekly inventory checks and assisting in the ordering of supplies to ensure the department is fully stocked.
- Receives and stores linen necessary for daily operations of the department, ensuring availability and proper organization of clean linens.
- Mentors newly hired aides and therapy volunteers, assisting with orientation and training to ensure they understand departmental procedures and best practices.
- Notifies healthcare team members about patients' whereabouts, ensuring safety protocols are followed, such as the use of safety restraints, call bells, and accessible communication tools.
- Applies modalities and supports patient care in accordance with the Occupational, Physical, and Speech Therapy Practice Acts, ensuring proper application and patient safety.
- Escorts patients to appropriate treatment areas, informing the therapist of the patient’s arrival and awaiting further directions to proceed with treatment.
- Answers telephone calls to the department in a polite and professional manner, directing calls, taking messages, and providing information as needed.
- Transports patients and equipment safely and efficiently between patient units, treatment centers, and designated areas, maintaining professionalism and patient comfort throughout.
