What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Officer position at UPMC?
UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital is hiring a part-time Safety Officer to support the Safety & Security team!
The incumbent will work three 8-hour shifts per week from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct searches, maintain paperwork/property, and handle patient belongings per policy.
- Meet mandatory education and competency requirements, including age-specific competencies.
- Perform physical restraint techniques to control violent patients and ensure safety.
- Provide relief coverage for safety systems clerks and parking lot attendants.
- Conduct safety, security, and fire safety patrols; document/report unsafe conditions and security violations.
- Assist clinical staff with uncooperative patients and respond to calls for assistance professionally.
- Perform assignments as directed by managers, including daily reviews of communications.
- Assist during emergencies and crises; collaborate with law enforcement and medical authorities.
- Maintain professionalism, proper dress, radio communication, and service excellence.
- Complete mandatory and recommended training programs.
- Provide escort services for patients, staff, and visitors.
- Investigate incidents such as theft, suspicious activity, vandalism, and safety issues.
- Test alarm systems and equipment as assigned.
