UPMC Northwest is looking for a motivated individual to join our team as a Full-Time Specimen Processor. This essential role supports patient care by ensuring accurate and timely specimen handling, helping fuel critical lab diagnostics every day.
This position offers a flexible schedule with day and evening shifts—typically 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., working Monday through Friday with every other weekend and just 1–2 holidays per year. Some scheduling flexibility is available to support work-life balance. While clinical laboratory experience is preferred, we welcome individuals who are eager to learn and grow in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

In this position, there will be the opportunity to-

- Monitor pneumatic tube system and courier deliveries to ensure timely specimen processing.
- Investigate and resolve specimen issues or requesting errors; complete quality documentation as needed.
- Separate specimens by centrifugation, label aliquot tubes, transfer samples, and store them at appropriate temperatures.
- Enter specimen receive times into the system and answer phone inquiries regarding collection procedures, results, and normal ranges.
- Follow all safety regulations when handling biohazardous materials and sharps to ensure a safe work environment.
- Verify specimen accuracy by matching patient information with requisitions or labels and request in the system if needed.
- Prepare, package, and send specimens to outside locations; prioritize and share specimens per lab policies.
- Disinfect work areas regularly and assist in training new staff while performing clerical and technical duties as assigned.
