Summary
We are a cannabis distribution company looking for a Compliance Specialist. This position will manage compliance efforts across all California company locations and requires a wide variety of skills. The right candidate will be extremely detail oriented, able to work cross functionally with multiple departments and travel to other company locations. This role will be responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of internal compliance monitoring by working closely with internal business operations to assist in the successful execution of compliance plans and industry standards. This position will also act as the primary liaison between local and state compliance agencies and the company. The Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring that the company is following all rules and regulations within the cannabis industry and will be responsible for staying current with policies and applicable state regulations impacting institutional compliance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities includes, but is not limited to the following:
- Develop, initiate, and revise policies and procedures for the general operation of the business
- Prepare reports, procedural documents, forms, and permit/license applications
- Ensure all corporate mandates, compliance, and laws are followed
- Conduct regulatory compliance reviews
- Constantly report to management concerning the organization’s compliance with laws and regulations
- Take action in dealing with non-compliant situations whilst creating realistic plans to overcome them
- Conduct regular audits to identify potential weaknesses and noncompliant situations
- Work cross functionally to effectively communicate with employees to ensure all staff is aware of what they need to do to comply with internal and external laws and regulations
- When applicable, educate team on any regulatory requirements including changes, updates, or modifications which may impact their day-to-day responsibilities and interactions with clients
- Interact directly with local and state regulators; investigate issues, process paperwork, and furnish Department of Cannabis Control license paperwork as needed
- Interact with internal staff and clients on regulatory matters
- Provide support for Government audits
- Respond to employee questions or concerns regarding compliance issues

Qualifications

- Bachelors or Masters degree in Business Administration, Law, or related field (preferred); or relevant work experience of 5 years
- Minimum of 3 years experience managing quality control internal audits
- Demonstrated problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills and the proven ability to
- prioritize tasks effectively in a deadline-driven environment
- Must be computer literate, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- Must have previous experience working with a wide variety of US federal, state and local
- government entities
- Strong project and time management skills, including ability to direct multiple projects

Preferred
- Previous professional experience working in a position that requires knowledge of CA cannabis regulations is a plus
Work Environment
This position operates primarily onsite in an office environment; however, some tasks are off-site. Intermittent remote work may be possible upon approval from the supervisor. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, printers, phones, and writing instruments.
Physical Demands
This is a semi-physically demanding position. To perform the required tasks of this position, a Compliance Officer needs to have and/or be able to:
- Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment, mobile phone, etc.
- Be able to efficiently operate a motor vehicle or sit in a plane as travel requires.
- Lift boxes and/or other items up to approximately 50 lbs.
- Be able to effectively and correctly communicate via speech and writing.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $27.00 - $33.00 per hour
