Licensure: K-12; TESOL Endorsement
Description: Assists in recognizing and responding to the multiple needs of the diverse learners in the district by implementing a balanced approach of direct teaching, regular classroom support strategies, and assessments that guide instruction.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in teaching field
Appropriate State of Ohio licensure
TESOL or bilingual endorsement
Experience in teaching diverse learners preferred
Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate

Knowledge of state and federal language standards
Essential Functions:
Plan, organize, and provide instruction in English language development that meet state and federal standards
Work with teachers and administrators to develop and use appropriate ELL literacy strategies, implementation plans, and assessment tools.
Address all aspects of communication through appropriate instruction that develops each student’s ability to read, write, speak, and listen in the appropriate content area
Administer academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student progress for meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition
Maintain complete and accurate records of student progress and evidence of growth and progress
Provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies
Adapt curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial instruction as to meet the needs of individual students and subgroups of students
Establish and maintain standards of student behavior required to run an orderly and productive classroom environment
Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement
Be available for consult with parents, students, and administrators in order to best support all aspects of the learning environment for ELL students
Provide services in collaboration with general education teachers and paraprofessionals / tutors
Embrace and encourage the acceptance of diversity
Perform all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Promote good public relations
Serve as a role model for students
Respond to routine questions and requests in a timely, appropriate manner
Perform other duties as assigned
Maintain and improve professional competence by attending professional seminars, workshops, etc. to keep current on relevant issues
Counsel, advise, encourage, and motivate students
Make provisions for being available to students and parents for educational-related purposes outside the instructional day

Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue
Occasional interaction among unruly children
Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull various items up to a maximum of 25 pounds, e.g., paper boxes, deliveries of supplies and equipment
Frequently move and position self as necessary to access and operate equipment
Frequently move around workspace and travel throughout school building and/or school district
