The Legal Assistance program offers legal and other advocacy services without cost to persons aged 60 and older in Cannon, Clay, Cumberland, Dekalb, Fentress, Jackson, Macon, Overton, Pickett, Putnam, Smith, VanBuren, Warren, and White Counties. Aging Services of the Upper Cumberlands, Inc assists older adults and their families in various elder law issues. Our ideal candidate will have demonstrated the desire to be helpful to those who might be in distress and going through a difficult time. They should be self-starters, be self-motivated, and be able to manage a dynamic role as the Executive Director of Aging Services of the Upper Cumberlands, Inc.
Aging Services of the Upper Cumberlands, Inc is seeking an Attorney at Law with a preference of 5 years’ experience and is licensed as an attorney in good standing by the Tennessee Supreme Court. This candidate must have the desire to learn and grow in the Elder Law field. Prior elder law experience is preferred. The attorney will counsel clients (and their families) in the contract service area.
· Provide legal advice to older clients, aged 60 and older, in areas including estate planning, wills, and healthcare directives, financial exploitation, and public benefits such as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid
· Provide Quarterly Legal Reports to Area on Aging (UCDD) and Tennessee Department of Disability and Aging
· Assist clients in planning for possible long-term care needs, including nursing home care
· Interpret laws and advise clients about changes in the law that may affect their plans
· Coordinate with medical professionals, and other relevant experts for cases
· Advise, draft, and assist in the execution of Powers of Attorney and Qualified Income Trust documents for elders
· Offer legal assistance for elders in senior centers throughout the Upper Cumberland region and provide educational presentations upon request in the service area counties
· Advocate for elder rights, abuse, neglect, and fraud cases
· Work with local resources in the community as a team effort to be the best advocate for elderly clients
· Some grant writing and options to get assistance for better funding for the program
· Provide executive oversight for assurance that the Long-Term Care Ombudsman program at Aging Services is meeting the expectations under the supervision of the TN State Long Term Care Ombudsman.
