Mid-Day Dispatcher needed for transportation. Available immediately.
Job Type: Full-time Salary: $40,000 to $50,000 - commensurate with experience.
MAJOR FUNCTION: Ensure all bus routes are covered by drivers and assistants. Address any questions and/or concerns from parents and schools. Matain up to date records essential to the Operations and State Subsidy. Review driver time and attendance and make necessary adjustments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Employee must have the ability to perform the following essential functions on a timely basis with or without reasonable accommodations.
[Scheduling]
- Schedules and assigns daily bus routes and drivers.
- Schedule and assign various trips, such as athletic trips and field trips.
- Sub out buses in the GPS system
- Ensure all drivers and attendants and providing services to students in a safe and professional manner.
[Communications]
- Maintain efficient school bus routes by monitoring the performance of each route. It is imperative to ensure the route’s sequence is sound, timing is adequate and all stops in the routes are appropriate.
- Communicate with drivers through 2 way radio system
- Communicate verbally and in writing with schools and parents regarding routes, service issues, stops, trips, etc.
- Handle emergency and accident communications
[Record Keeping]
- Review time and attendance records of drivers and attendance and make appropriate adjusments as needed
- Collect necessary state compliance reports
- Maintain daily records of pre-trip inspections and monitor repair activities
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Transportation Services
- Transportation Dispatchers may be assigned to morning, afternoon or middle of the day shift.
QUALIFICATIONS: To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skills, and/or ability necessary.
- Communicating clearly to all stakeholders in writing and verbally
- Keeping calm in the face of difficult situations in order to rectify and address issues quickly and efficiently
- Thinking ahead to anticipate potential problems in operations
- Unwavering commitment to students’ success and belief in the Upper Darby School District’s mission
- Valid Drivers License, CDL preferred.
- At least one year of experience related to above essential functions

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Basic understanding of cleaning and sanitation procedures.
- Advanced knowledge of various computer based operating systems, such as Routing System, GPS System, Parent Communication System, etc.
- Knowledge of emergency procedures.
- Ability to maintain property and inventory.
