Position Overview:
The Assistant Band Director plays a vital role in supporting the success of the Upper Darby High School Bands, with responsibilities that shift based on the season. This individual works closely with the Director of Bands to provide both creative and logistical support, ensuring the smooth operation and high-quality performance of the band program.
Fall Responsibilities: Marching Royals
The primary responsibility during the fall season is supporting the Marching Royals. The Assistant Band Director will:
- Collaborate with the Director of Bands to develop visual and musical concepts for the marching band.
- Consult on show ideas, contributing creative and technical expertise to enhance performances.
- Attend all Marching Royals rehearsals, football games, and competitions, providing direct support to the students and staff.
- Work with students to refine their visual and musical performance skills.
- Assist the Director of Bands in any necessary capacity to ensure the success of the marching band program.
Winter and Spring Responsibilities: Indoor Drumline & Administrative Support
In the winter and spring seasons, the Assistant Band Director’s role transitions to focus on administrative duties and supporting the Indoor Drumline. Responsibilities include:
- Coordinating logistics for the Indoor Drumline, including arranging bus transportation and scheduling rehearsals.
- Attending Indoor Drumline rehearsals and competitions to assist students and staff.
- Providing support as needed during rehearsals and performances to ensure the success of the program.
- Collaborating with the Director of Bands to handle other administrative tasks as they arise.

Required:
Clearances include Criminal Background Clearance (Act 34), Child Abuse Clearance (Act 151), and FBI Fingerprint Clearance (Act 114)
