LOCATION: Upper Dublin High School
START DATE: December 2, 2024

SALARY: Commensurate with Experience

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

­­­­­­­­­The Athletic Director is responsible for providing leadership, collaboration, and coordination in the area of the athletic program of the high school. The primary function of the Athletic Director is to organize, coordinate, supervise, evaluate and administer the program of interscholastic athletics.

 

 REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports to the High School Principal with input provided by the MS Principal
  • This position directly supervises Athletics Administrative Assistant and Extra Duty athletic positions

 

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The list is intended to be illustrative rather than complete and serves to show major duties and responsibilities and does not express or imply that these are the only duties to be performed by the incumbent in this position.  The employee will be required to perform any other position-related duties requested by the Principal and/or Superintendent.

  1. Function as the administrator in charge of the interscholastic athletic program.
  2. Recruit and recommend all athletic personnel.
  3. Serve as primary supervisor of coaching staff.
  4. Maintain accessibility to building administrators, coaches, and the public for grades 7-12.
  5. Distribute keys, collect paperwork and review clearances of coaching staff. 
  6. Review and update materials for preseason coaches meetings.
  7. Evaluate the performance of head coaches.  Make recommendations to the respective principal and superintendent for renewal or non-renewal of contracts on an annual basis.
  8. Schedule and conduct fall, winter and spring preseason coaches meetings.
  9. Coordinate the opening of preseason camp prior to the start of the school year.
  10. Distribute mandatory PIAA Rules Interpretation dates, league meeting dates and District Playoff information to all head coaches.
  11. Work in conjunction with the business office to submit and review all bids by appointed deadlines.
  12. Review athletic handbook and code of conduct yearly with ACC.
  13. Attend weekly administrative meetings.
  14. Attend monthly Suburban One League Athletic Director’s meetings.
  15. Attend yearly Athletic Director’s Conference and other workshops as deemed appropriate.
  16. Attend fall, winter and spring regular and post season sporting events.
  17. Coordinate a meeting in mid-May with 8th grade students who are interested in participating in fall sports at the high school with the coaching staff.
  18. Set dates in mid-May for cheerleading tryouts.
  19. Submit names and salaries to business office and distribute contracts for all co-curricular positions for each of the three sport seasons.
  20. Submit extended season pay for post season play to business office.
  21. Develop away game schedule for transportation department on a monthly basis.
  22. Coordinate with the Director of Grounds to schedule fall and spring field preparation.
  23. Coordinate with Facilities & Events Coordinator on indoor and outdoor usage 
  24. Coordinate game workers for all contests that require supervision including evening events.
  25. Submit bi-weekly report for remuneration for game workers.
  26. Coordinate security (police) and medical supervision (ambulance) for contests throughout the school year.
  27. Responsible for chairing assigned Suburban I league sports activity.
  28. Arrange for physician coverage for all levels of football games and wrestling matches.
  29. Prepare season tickets for all contests that require supervision including evening events.
  30. Oversee the issuing and checking in of contracts to officials and opposing teams for all contests.
  31. Develop an indoor practice schedule for inclement weather in lieu of spring sports.
  32. Develop and maintain academic eligibility records on a seasonal basis.
  33. Meet with and counsel students who are either on academic probation or who are academically ineligible to participate in sports.
  34. Pay league and PIAA dues and order new PIAA rule books.
  35. Inventory delivery of all fall, winter and spring equipment and confirm return date of equipment.
  36. Complete awards and certificates for athletes for each season as well as for end of year Activities and Athletics Award Ceremony.
  37. Recognize teams and individual honors at school board meetings.
  38. Review all permits for use of the high school and middle school fields and facilities by internal and external organizations.
  39. Work with other school’s Athletic Directors on a regular basis on the coordination of schedules and the re-scheduling of postponed events.
  40. Complete PIAA forms for transfer and foreign exchange students.
  41. Respond to correspondence (emails/letters/phone calls).
  42. Arrange for lodging and transportation for teams and individuals who participate in post season competition.
  43. Oversee the Athletic Administrative Assistant and Extra Duty Athletic positions.
  44. Attend student, parental or administrative meetings when scheduled.
  45. Performs other duties as assigned by Superintendent of designee.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s Degree or higher
  • Minimum of five years of teaching/coaching experience 
  • Administrative experience preferred
