Position Summary
Provide appropriate services to learners interested in obtaining teacher licensure. Responsible for maintaining the quality and consistency of the University’s approved Teacher Education Program.

Position Responsibilities

  • Implement processes in accordance with procedures and policies of the Teacher Education Program.
  • Assure students pursuing degrees in education understand the framework of the Teacher Education Program and understand the Assessment System and the specifics of its components.
  • Maintain all required documentation for Teacher Education student files.
  • Provide input and assistance with the development of curriculum and course goals and objectives and outcomes as they relate to the Teacher Education Program.
  • Work with the Dean and Chair of Teacher Education to maintain Teacher Education curriculum consistency and to ensure the Teacher Education Program at the Center is operating according to Andres School of Education and University goals and policies.
  • Participate in Teacher Education Department meetings in a collegial manner.
  • Assist Teacher Education Chair in recruiting, screening, interviewing, and making hiring recommendations for Teacher Education faculty and field supervisors.
  • Plan and conduct training for University student teacher supervisors in collaboration with the Dean and Chair of Teacher Education.
  • Plan and conduct the Teacher Education Advisory Committee meeting two times per year.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with officials at schools in which students will be placed for practicums, field experiences and student teaching.
  • Prepare and share with teacher education students student teaching materials and review and provide feedback to all submitted student teaching applications.
  • Work closely with schools to place practicum students and student teachers.
  • Arrange and be an integral part of meetings with students in which a student’s progress in the program is of concern.
  • Oversee the Curriculum Lab, seeing to culling and purchase of materials.
  • Advise prospective and current undergraduate students. This includes performing initial and updated transcript evaluations for status toward degree completion, determining admission status of undergraduate students, assisting students with scheduling and updating degree plans as needed, and serving as a back-up for other advisors.
  • Assist with college fairs and other functions at which UIU representative is needed.
  • Utilize existing resources to accomplish predetermined University enrollment and quality goals.
  • Assist prospective and current Master of Education and graduate students and work with Master of Education Chair to provide services to them.
  • Review and improve the advising program as it relates to prospective and current undergraduates Areas to be addressed include the admissions process, student records, transcript evaluation and updates, and the advising process.
  • Address student problems and concerns as they relate to the University and the student’s education in collaboration with the Dean and Chair of Teacher Education. Adherence to UIU policies must be followed.
  • Assure students understand teacher licensure: for what to apply, how to apply, and what processes at the University take place before recommendation by the University’s recommending official occurs.
  • Work closely with the Dean and Chair of Teacher Education to assure consistency of program with main campus.
  • Assist Center Director with marketing efforts.
  • Work closely with Integrated Enrollment Center (IEC), Registrar’s Office, and the Financial Aid staff to assist students.
  • Act in a professional, collegial manner when representing the University, faculty, students, and staff.
  • Comply with requests and directives from University supervisors and officials.
  • Provide appropriate communication and reports to campus offices routinely and upon special request from university officials.
  • Serve on University committees as appropriate.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Ensure in the Center a culture of superior customer service through example and encouragement.
  • Maintain superior customer service as a competitive advantage.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Licensed teacher.
