Foster Care Caseworker
LOCATION: Office located in Negaunee Township, but travel to other locations in the Upper Peninsula is required.
JOB STATUS: Full-time / 40 hours per week
SALARY & BENEFITS: Starting at $20.00 per hour/ insurance benefits at no cost to the employee / PTO / 401k with generous agency match
RESPONSIBILITIES & SKILLS:
- Provide casework services to children placed in foster care due to abuse and neglect and work a reunification plan with parents
- Assess families and individuals to identify strengths and needs within the family unit
- Strong report writing skills
- Deal effectively with confrontation
- Communicate with and act as a liaison between MDHHS, attorneys, counselors, schools, parents, foster parents, and youth
- Travel throughout the Upper Peninsula for purposes of case management (court hearings, parenting time, home visits in the foster home or parental home)
- Maintain confidentiality
- Accept feedback, be open to learning, and have the ability to work well within a team
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, criminal justice, or human services
- Candidate must attend and complete 9-week Child Welfare Institute Training prior to assuming full caseload responsibilities
- Pass a background check and child protective services history check
- Candidate must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed and be willing to travel throughout the U.P.
