Open Position: Career Technical Special Education Coordinator

Location: Upper Valley Career Center Main High School Campus

General Job Description:

Coordinates the career technical special education program for his/her caseload.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Communicates program objectives/performance expectations to students/parents.

  • Manages IEP/ETR/RTI process for their caseload. Represents UVCC with home districts. 

  • Keeps current with state standards/guidelines. Collaborates with employers, students, families and the community to delineate short/long-range special education vocational needs/opportunities.

  • Prepares grant applications. Implements funded proposals. Complies with reporting requirements.

  • Monitors the board-approved budget. Controls costs. Upholds fiscal accountability standards.

  • Assists with IDEA Part-B applications and program reporting requirements.

  • Participates in staff selection/orientation. Facilitates the professional growth of staff.

  • Assists with implementation of district-wide testing program.

  • Coordinates student planning meetings. Helps students identify prerequisite skills for participation in post-secondary education, work training and/or employment environments.

  • Maintains career-focused resource materials. Helps students understand the interrelationship of academic courses and career objectives. Promotes a balanced perspective of work and family life.

  • Identifies/obtains community-based job training/employment opportunities. Coordinates student participation (e.g., job placements, application/interview processes, work site adaptations, job coaching, student progress reports, attendance/retention, etc.).

  • Helps ensure that assessment instruments/procedures support non-biased planning activities.

  • Helps students develop realistic goals for training, continuing education, and/or employment.

  • Monitors student progress to ensure transition plans remain current, valid and relevant.

  • Helps identify/resolve problems that impede student participation in appropriate learning activities.

  • Considers the impact of the home environment and peer influences on each student.

  • Implements protocols to safeguard student information shared with staff and/or referral sources.

  • Plans/implements student intervention strategies that produce tangible evidence-based benefits within specified time-frames. Monitors intervention efficacy to improve outcomes.

  • Assists with coordination of assessments as per student required accommodations.

  • Facilitates opportunities for all students to participate in an inclusive educational environment.

  • Advocates for students. Pays attention to student demeanor. Draws out feelings/concerns.

  • Helps students better understand themselves, make appropriate choices and grow academically.

  • Promotes cultural awareness, self-reliance, problem-solving, critical-thinking and creativity skills.

  • Facilitates student learning activities that encourage teamwork and positive peer relationships.

  • Helps staff with pupil management. Prepares conduct reports/discipline recommendations.

  • Initiates student/family referrals to community services (e.g., legal, health, social services, DD, OOD, etc.).

  • Serves as a district contact person for public agencies and an intermediary for parents/staff.

  • Works with administrators to ensure program equipment is available/working when needed.

  • Requests permission and follows board-approved procedures for the disposal of fixed assets.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Valid State Department of Education license/certificate as determined at the time of appointment.

  • Completion of the Transition To Work (TTW) endorsement is encouraged.

  • Meets Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators qualification. 

  • Articulates a clear program philosophy and sustainable implementation strategy.

  • Displays flexibility, reliability,  self-discipline, and a willingness to take on challenging tasks. 

  • Exemplifies visionary/resolute leadership skills in developing/managing people. 

  • Exhibits effective organizational, time-management, and resourceful problem solving skills. 

  • Shows evidence of core computer competencies deemed appropriate at the time of hire. 

  • Meets all mandated health screening requirements.

  • Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.  Able to successfully pass a  BCI/FBI background check.

  • Maintains compliance with drug-free workplace rules, Board policies, and other applicable procedures/guidelines.

  

Salary:

Appropriate placement on the Certificated Salary Schedule to be determined by education and experience.  Salary will range from $48,678.00  ( Class II, Step 0) to $80,934.00 (Class V, Step 10).  Base contract is 187 Days.   Minimum workday is 7.5 hours per day exclusive of a lunch break .  One-year contract with opportunity for renewal.

State Teachers Retirement System, Worker’s Compensation, paid sick/personal leave, partial tuition reimbursement, and tax-sheltered retirement contributions.  Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance offered. Some benefits are a shared cost between the employee and the Board of Education.

 

Performance Evaluation:

Job performance is evaluated according to policy provisions and contractual agreements adopted by the Upper Valley Career Center.
