What are the responsibilities and job description for the Front Desk Per Diem position at Upper Valley Haven?
The Upper Valley Haven provides temporary shelter, supportive housing, food, and problem solving to those in need. We provide services without cost or judgement and practice respect and kindness to all.
We are seeking a team player to provide a welcoming experience to all who visit or call the Haven and serve as a flexible resource to fill staffing gaps for both our Front Desk and our Food Market Registration Desk. This is a per diem position without a fixed schedule though there may be an opportunity for a regular weekly shift.
Overview
At the Front Desk, you will welcome everyone who enters or calls the Haven – community members, visitors, donors, and volunteers. You will connect them with staff, direct them to on-site resources, and provide other assistance as appropriate. The ideal candidate is motivated to help members of the community and is comfortable engaging with people who may be distressed or experiencing symptoms related to mental illness or substance use.
At the Food Market Registration Desk, you will provide a supportive and welcoming environment for Food Shelf customers during the registration process, paying special attention to orienting first-time customers with the intention of putting them at ease.
You will engage everyone visiting the Haven in keeping with Haven values and principles; demonstrate a commitment to working as part of a team; function as an ambassador for the Haven; and adhere to all Haven policies and procedures.
Compensation
The hourly pay rate is $20.00/hour.
Requirements
- Communicates professionally both in writing and orally
- Interacts comfortably with people from a wide range of social and economic and religious backgrounds
- Excellent attention to detail
- Comfortable working on computers and proficient with Microsoft Office 365 and its applications
- Demonstrates sound judgment in stressful and urgent situations
- Proven track record of reliability and punctuality
