What are the responsibilities and job description for the Data Scientist – Public Safety\Emergency Management position at UPSLOPE ADVISORS, INC?
The Data Scientist will provide expertise on how to utilize, integrate and enhance federal government and external datasets to deliver insights into the potential for and disbursement of disaster recovery loans for homeowners and business owners across the nation. The position is part of a team of professionals providing support to the American public through the Small Business Administration (SBA) following disasters. The individual will support longer term growth of this capability within the SBA and in supporting operations for disaster events. This is a remote position (Washington DC area preferred but not required). The person in this position will be required to participate in activities the Eastern time zone.
Must be a US Citizen and able to secure a Public Trust clearance
Duties
- Find patterns and trends in datasets to uncover insights
- Create algorithms and data models to forecast outcomes
- Use machine learning techniques to improve the quality of data or product offerings
- Communicate recommendations to other teams and senior staff
- Deploy data tools such as Python, R, SAS, or SQL in data analysis
- Develop dashboards and interactive applications in Tableau, Power BI, ArcGIS Online or other similar technologies
- Stay on top of innovations in the data science field
- Advise the team on the use of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and other advanced data utilization and exploitation techniques
Qualifications
- Master's degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or quantitative field directly related to this position and 5 years of experience within this discipline.
- Professional experience with the following:
- Data analytical process and limitations
- Custom data analytics application development
- Requirements building
- Rapid prototype development
- Python coding or tailoring of existing codes
Desired Skills:
- Required technical expertise with the following:
- Python, R, or other commonly used languages for data processing and exploitation
- Business intelligence software (e.g. Power BI, Tableau)
- Familiarity and willingness to master:
- Python script development
- Connecting to and pulling data (aka ETL) from external sources via APIs
- Training content development methodologies
- Geospatial tools such as ArcGIS Online hosted applications
- Microsoft Dynamics
- Catastrophic Modeling outputs
- Nice to have:
- Familiarity with SBA’s recovery missions, FEMA’s GIS activities or other disaster related applications of data science
