What are the responsibilities and job description for the Externship Opportunity position at Upstate Caring Partners?
Upstate Caring Partners is excited to offer a cutting-edge summer externship experience for undergraduate students eager to explore career opportunities within the field o intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Externship opportunities ae available in our school-age, adult, and pre-school programs. This externship is ideal for students intending on pursuing careers and possibly advancing education in the fields of applied behavior analysis, psychology, social work, medicine, teaching, and/or therapy.
Undergraduate externs will gain exposure to professional skills, activities, and evidence-based practices used for education and treatment of children and adults with complex developmental disabilities and co-occurring psychiatric, medical, dietary, motoric, and sleep disorders. The externship runs from 05/19/25 - 08/15/25.
Supervisor/Mentor
All externs will be assigned a supervisor/mentor who will be responsible for ensuring a quality externship experience. Weekly supervision sessions will allow for processing the experience and feedback.
Measurable Goals
Early on in the externship process, measurable goals and timelines will e developed between the externs and supervisor/mentor. All externs will be actively involved in research and present their finds at the end of the externship.
Knowledge Skills
Based on the goals of the externship, a training plan will be developed that incorporates opportunities to build knowledge and practice skills.
Career Exploration
Externs will participate in a weekly career exploration group where they will have the opportunity to reflect on their experiences and network with other professionals.
Requirements
- Undergraduate student actively pursuing a bachelor' degree.
- Externship is 35 hours per week and runs from 05/19/25 - 08/15/25.
- Submit application, transcript, references and cover letter by 02/21/25.
- Externs will be selected by 03/28/25.
- Agency background clearance required.
