Job Summary
This position is also responsible for ensuring the proper storage, inventory control, and shipment of human samples under their designated storage conditions to the appropriate locations for further analysis. Lab Technicians are responsible as a group for properly maintaining equipment, ordering supplies, and preparing reagents. This position is responsible for preparing labels or research -sample collection kits for the clinical study team or verifying their accuracy. All SUNY Upstate Medical University institutional training, following all outlined safety procedures, and working in a manner that is consistent with meeting Good Clinical and Good Laboratory Practice requirements is expected. This position will require a flexible schedule which will include some evening and weekend hours.
Specific job duties may include: prepare kits for sample collections; process blood samples for serum, plasma, and cells; process saliva and nasal samples; extract RNA from serum and run qRT-PCR; regularly download, review and maintain temperature records; pack and ship biospecimen samples; help with maintaining lab equipment; do lab chores such as cleaning BSC (Biosafety Cabinet) and lab equipment (centrifuges, etc); be flexible with other lab chores such as checking eyewash station, maintaining supply inventory, unpacking supplies and refilling liquid nitrogen tank; complete, review and maintain lab documents.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a life science (biology, chemistry, or related field).
Preferred Qualifications
At least one year of laboratory experience and/or previous experience handling human blood.

Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00 pm
