The Human Resources Manager is a seasoned generalist, who has a wide range of competencies within the HR function, balancing employee needs with business objectives. The ideal candidate is an energetic, people savvy professional, who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and has the ability to anticipate needs, prioritize responsibilities, plan, organize and take initiative. Primary responsibilities include administering a variety of HR initiatives and processes in support of Upwing Energy values, policies and programs. The candidate will play an active role in the company’s international expansion.
Essential Duties and responsibilities:
- Talent Onboarding: Provide an outstanding new hire orientation and onboarding experience for every applicant to lay the foundation for long-term success, ensure productivity and build loyalty and engagement.
- Compensation and Benefits: Develop and administer total rewards packages that care for the “whole person,” including compensation, benefit and employee incentive programs, both domestically and internationally. Ensure compensation and benefits are right-sized and relevant to wage, salary and incentive data to ensure the company’s total compensation programs are competitive and on-brand while still meeting the practical needs of the business.
- Employee and Career Development: Design, implement, continuously strengthen and provide guidance for talent development, succession planning and annual performance management and goal-setting programs that nurture, develop and retain our talent.
- Culture and Engagement: Champion initiatives that promote a positive workplace culture, driving employee engagement and satisfaction, overseeing employee relations (dispute resolution, administering disciplinary actions, providing counseling services and responding to employee concerns), and employee investigations as required. Ensure culture and engagement are consistent throughout all Upwing entities.
- Compliance and Legal Oversight: Work with our PEO partners and external counsel to ensure adherence to all employment laws and regulations, manage legal matters, provide compliance training and handle all work visa sponsorship requirements.
- HR Operations:
Ensure the following HR functions adhere to all applicable regulations and are delivered with excellence:

- HR Administration:
~ Complete onboarding process and paperwork.
~ Maintain accurate and up-to-date human resource files and documentation.
~ Perform periodic audits of HR files and records to ensure that all required documents are collected and filed appropriately.
~ Assist with planning/scheduling and execution of special events, such as benefit enrollment, organization-wide meetings, training courses (facilitate as needed), HR communications, employee recognition events, retirement celebrations, etc.
~ Prepare HR-related companywide emails for distribution, documents, presentations and correspondence.
~ Respond to inquiries and process required paperwork for employee transfers, changes in job classification, salary increases, bonus payments and options agreements, leave of absences, benefit questions, garnishments and other related employment matters.
~ Serve as a backup for Talent Acquisition Manager
Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in human resources, business administration or a related field.
- A minimum of seven (7) years of experience as a Human Resources Manager in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience managing human resources internationally highly preferred.
- Experience in manufacturing, oil and gas or industrial businesses highly preferred.
- Significant experience with non-exempt roles.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Teams; proficient in using HRIS and ATS software.
- Exercise discretion and a high level of professionalism in handling confidential information.
- Exceptional planning and organizational skills with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
- Team builder and collaborator possessing both the people and culture development skills as well as the analytical and technical skills required for the function.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of organization, planning, records management and general administration.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Strong attention to detail.
