Position summary

Responsible for performing down-hole geophysical logs on open and cased wells as needed to obtain and analyze multi-component borehole data for geophysical properties and ore-grade determination.  May include recording field data related to drill cutting samples and their geologic properties. Responsible for locating known or planned data points accurately through the use of GPS equipment, for collecting, processing and updating data in the drill hole database and relevant GIS maps as well as performing as-built surveys of drilling and construction activities.  Works regularly both independently and as part of several multi-disciplinary teams. Also maintains equipment and records associated with surveying and well logging.

  • Transports logging equipment and instruments to designated locations and obtains geophysical, depth, QA data and / or subsurface video from open and cased wells.
  • Assist with drill hole cuttings lithologic descriptions
  • Locates and stakes planned or existing drill locations, wells, roads, fences, power lines, flow lines, or other data points in the field according to URE specifications.
  • Acquires quality open- and cased-hole logging and camera data.
  • Entry of data related to well construction into the drill hole database.
  • Performs pre-job planning of surveying and logging operations.
  • Transports surveying equipment and instruments to designated locations and obtains data from known points, and / or locates planned points in the field marking the location with stakes, lath, and flagging accordingly.
  • Routinely work with GIS and related programs to perform surveying and staking activities.
  • Coordinates with other Field Supervisors to minimize rig time and maximize productivity.
  • Prepares compliance documents that meet or exceed government and company regulations.
  • Maintain and calibrate geophysical logging, surveying and downhole camera equipment.
  • Diagnoses cause of malfunctioning instruments and cable and makes repairs.
  • Ensures that all data obtained is entered and stored accurately in spreadsheets or databases.
  • Regular attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Qualifications :

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required.

  • Current unrestricted driver’s license, and insurable driving record.
  • AS or Technical Certificate (Math, Science, GIS or related disciplines), or appropriate training and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of data management processes.
  • Computer skills : proficiency with Windows based programs at a minimum.
  • Ability to learn and utilize the basics of operation of the geophysical logging truck and its related programs.
  • Ability to learn and utilize various GIS software programs.
  • Able to work independently with little or no supervision for extended periods of time in remote areas.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Basic math skills : add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Good communication skills (both oral and written).

    Physical Demands : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee is occasionally required to sit.  The employee must regularly lift and / or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and / or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

    Work Environment : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to possibility of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
