ABOUT THE POSITION:
Urban Dove Team Charter School seeks a manager of special populations support, responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with special needs. The role involves working closely with faculty to integrate IEPs into the curriculum, communicating with parents and special education teams, and using data to improve student outcomes. Our goal is to provide personalized learning experiences that support academic and personal growth within our unique sports-based education model.
ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:
Urban Dove Team Charter School (UD Team) is a distinctive network of sports-based high schools catering to over-aged, under-credited youth. We fuse a robust academic curriculum with sports-based youth development, ensuring our graduates receive a diploma, a stepping stone for higher education, and essential job skills.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- In-Class Support:
- Provide comprehensive support to all teachers, including content and special education instructors, to select, prepare, and implement SDI and MLL supports.
- Provides regular classroom observation feedback on SDI implementation and MLL support.
- Monitor teacher progress in delivering needs specific instruction and make a plan to ensure growth to meet instructional goals.
- Collaborate with others to identify students in need of a BIP and take the lead on ensuring that the plan is being implemented once it is written.
- Data-Informed Instruction:
- Lead sessions with groups of teachers to analyze student data, incorporating various metrics such as Reading and Math Inventories, NYSESLAT Levels, Regents exams, report card grades, attendance, and student classwork, to inform supplementary tools and Specially Designed and MLL instruction practices.
- Identifies a variety of resources to enhance classroom instruction and student achievement by sharing research and best instructional SDI and MLL practices.
- Communicates and monitors deadlines.
- Professional Development:
- Work with the C&I leadership team to create and implement a professional development plan for instructional staff for the improvement of SDI and MLL practices, including SESIS, IEP, CLP, etc.
- Coordinate with the Charter Center Collaborative to ensure teachers attend professional development sessions for continuous professional growth.
- Engage in your own ongoing professional development to expand knowledge of instructional practices.
- Progress Monitoring and Reporting:
- Maintain current demographics and documents for students with IEPs, 504s, ELLs, and those in the referral process.
- Support NYSESLAT administration, as needed (MLL)
- IEP Development and Synthesis:
- Send collect IEP reports to all relevant parties (CCR, attendance, transcript list, teacher/coach/sss reports)
- Read IEPs and give feedback
- Collaborate with teachers to synthesize IEPs into comprehensive class learning plans.
- Write effective IEPs aligned with student needs and educational goals.
- Provide feedback to special education teachers on writing effective high quality IEPs that are aligned with student needs and educational goals
- Coordination of IEP Meetings:
- Participates and facilitates all IEP meetings while updating the trackers
- Facilitate and maintain systems for timely and accurate IEP meetings
- Coordinate with IC to ensure all IEP-related events are accurately reflected on the C&I calendar.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Communicate with local Committee on Special Education as needed
- Provide oversight to Related Services Providers from outside agencies (paras, speech pathologists, etc)
- Coordinate with related service providers within the school including creating safety plans w/ social workers based on IEPs
- Collaborate with SMSE to interview and supervise related service providers
- Collaborate with the DCI to act as a liaison between teachers and SMSE and Manager of literacy and MLL supports.
- Collaborate with SMSE to ensure legal compliance
- Ensure proper testing accommodations on exams.
- Ensure all documentation is up to date for new enrollments, 504’s and MLLs
- Handle Related Service Authorizations (RSAs) for students with IEPs
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s Degree preferred
- New York State Certification
- Both novice and experienced teachers may apply
- Experience in a Transfer School preferred
- Google Applications proficiency preferred
- Preferably knowledgeable in the use of SESIS
- Ability to create multi-tiered classroom structures and behavior plans to address multiple disabilities (ED, LD, OHI, etc)
- Demonstrated ability to “multi-task” and deliver high quality work

- Ability to function well as part of a team and work independently
