ABOUT THE POSITION:
The College All Stars (CAS) program guides students through their college journey, offering support from applications to enrollment. It includes SAT prep, financial aid workshops, career exploration, and campus tours, among others. Program Associates deliver college services, mentor at-risk youth emphasizing Urban Dove’s Core Values. The All Star Counselors report directly to the Director of College and Career Readiness.
ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:
Urban Dove Team Charter School (UD Team) is a distinctive network of sports-based high schools catering to over-aged, under-credited youth. We fuse a robust academic curriculum with sports-based youth development, ensuring our graduates receive a diploma, a stepping stone for higher education, and essential job skills.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop a comprehensive environment for students and teachers focusing on college readiness, and life planning.
- Implement College All Stars Curriculum, manage student supervision, and design lesson plans.
- Maintain databases and conduct regular student check-ins.
- Facilitate parent communication on student performance and collaborate on academic and life planning.
- Coordinate with coaches for academic monitoring and intervention.
- Engage with students directly, attend team meetings, and document student progress.
- Monitor alumni after graduation.
- Oversee program activities, handle admin tasks, and organize local and overnight college tours.
- Attend Senior Retreat in Spring and mentor a select group of students.
- Join staff meetings and training sessions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required.
- 3 years of experience in youth development, education, or college campus roles.
- Organized, reliable, and a positive role model for teens.
- Efficient multi-tasker with high-quality output.
- Experience in college access/retention programs preferred, especially counseling on post-secondary options.
- Knowledge of U.S. higher education, particularly NYC/State, financial aid, and college application processes.
- Aligned with Urban Dove mission and values: Teamwork, Leadership, Communication.
- Committed to restorative practices and strength-based youth development.
- Team player with strong work ethic, communication skills, and passion for helping at-risk youth.
- Driver's license and experience driving a 15-passenger van is a plus.
- Familiar with the college admissions process.
