Urban Grid is looking for a motivated SCADA Engineer Intern to assist the Engineering Department. The SCADA Intern will be involved with learning and executing roles for aspects of utility-scale solar projects related to SCADA, including project documentation, scheduling, process documentation, project controls, project coordination, etc. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the solar industry and contribute to meaningful projects throughout the United States. Grid is seeking a self-managed team-player with excellent technical skills to support projects from development to the beginning of construction.
This is a paid internship that will start on or around June 2, 2025, with an end date of August 8, 2025.
During the 10-week program, interns will participate in virtual, company-wide and department meetings, virtual monthly Friday lunch & learn trainings and a culminating group presentation on your overall internship experience. The program is structured to provide exposure to careers in renewable energy, best practices in internal communications as part of a remote/ hybrid team and best of all, the opportunity to work and support a team of professionals who are experts in their field.
Responsibilities
- Attend project calls, take meeting notes, and update teams
- Manage project documentation and assist the SCADA Project Management team in documentation control
- Assist with the planning and coordination of SCADA Projects
- Assist in the management of project schedules
- Provide status reports to the project managers
- Assist the project managers with tracking of tasks and project deliverables
- Act as a coordinator of information between SCADA Engineering and Networking teams
- Interface directly with internal project stakeholders to collect project documentation; stakeholders may include, engineering, admin, O&M, and field personnel
- Assist with process improvement within the Operations Technology Services (OTS) department
- Coordinate and organizing meetings between stakeholders, managing meeting minutes, action items, RFI’s, change requests
- Support a culture of continuous improvement and look for opportunities to improve processes and manage projects more efficiently
- Other duties assigned.
Location
This position will be in our Houston, TX Headquarters working a Hybrid 3 days a week in the office/ 2 days remote. Position will require a trip to one of the project sites VA.
Candidate to work full-time hours Monday - Friday during the summer duration of the internship.
- Recent graduate or in the last year of a degree in Business Management, Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or similar fields. Project management courses or experience preferred but not required. Similar schooling or work experience may replace degree.
- A strong interest in renewable energy and desire to learn about SCADA and the solar industry.
- Very strong communication skills and ability to effectively communicate information between many parties in an efficient and professional manner
- Analytical, detail-oriented, and highly organized
- Experience working on projects within multidisciplinary teams preferred.
- General knowledge of SCADA system design, setup, commissioning and support (desired but not required)
- Experience working with schedule software including but not limited to Oracle P6 and/or Microsoft Project
- Proficient use of Microsoft office tools including but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook, Sharepoint, Power BI
- Experience using task management tools including but not limited to; MS Teams, Smartsheet, Asana, Jira or others.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
