Job Summary
Urban Grid is seeking a Senior Analyst, Energy Fundamentals, to support our growing renewable energy portfolio. This role will be responsible for analyzing energy market fundamentals across PJM, MISO, SPP, and SERC, with a strong focus on transmission, congestion, and curtailment risk. The ideal candidate will provide critical insights to support project siting, development, M&A activities, and trading strategies for solar and storage assets.
Responsibilities
- Market Analysis & Risk Assessment: Conduct analysis of PJM, MISO, SPP, and SERC, focusing on transmission dynamics, congestion risks, and curtailment potential.
- Project Strategy: Support project strategy development for greenfield, acquisitions, and trading activities related to solar and storage assets.
- Trading & Risk Mitigation: Assist the trading team with scenario-based analysis to mitigate market risks using FTRs, DART, and term trading strategies.
- Market Impact Evaluation: Evaluate the market impact of planned generation, transmission upgrades, retirements, and evolving market fundamentals to inform investment strategies.
- Model Development & Maintenance: Maintain and enhance internal models based on evolving market conditions, including transmission upgrades, new build projects, retirements, load forecasts, and gas price movements.
- Long-Term Market Forecasting: Support long-term market outlooks by analyzing interconnection queue data and assessing the impact of new generation additions over the near- and medium-term horizon.
- Energy Pricing & Forecasting: Develop and refine energy, capacity, ancillary services, and REC price forecasts, incorporating third-party data and market intelligence.
- Market Drivers & Industry Trends: Track and analyze key market drivers, including fuel costs, supply-demand trends, regulatory shifts, and technological advancements.
- Other duties as assigned.
Location: Houston. TX Office. Hybrid/Remote working may be acceptable for this role. Position may require periodic travel for
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or related field
- 4 years of experience in energy market analysis, transmission planning, or trading.
- Strong understanding of power market structures, congestion modeling, and fundamental drivers of energy pricing.
- Proficiency in data analysis, modeling, and visualization tools (e.g., Python, R, SQL, Power BI, or similar).
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex analysis into actionable insights.
- Experience with ISO/RTO market rules, interconnection processes, and transmission planning methodologies a plus.
- Experience working with FTR markets, basis risk management, or renewable energy trading is a plus.
